my wife knows the two most dangerous words with me are WATCH THIS
I swear it's only the women who realize you can't do the same stuff you did when you were 20.
I used to be invincible too, and really dumb.
Time has changed both of those.

It's like my new back doctor. "Your spine looks good for your age." Then, pointing to the x-ray, you have bone spurs here, here, here, here, here, here, etc. I went to ask for physical therapy. "We need to send you for an MRI so you can be referred to pain management."
71 yo, 180 lbs. I’ve been doing pull-ups 3x per week since 2012, following the routine listed below. After about a year, I was able to max out at 15 strict pull-ups. Then, as the years passed, that number slowly decreased. I can max out at 10 pull-ups.
The first two weeks, labeled Week -1 and Week -2, are for folks who can’t do any pull-ups, or only 1 or 2.
Following the (6 or 8 week) schedule, depending on your initial amount of pull-ups, you’re supposed to max out at 20 pull-ups. Most people will need much more time, which is built in to the program.

I think so, too.
I'm glad I made it out alive past 25. Once I did, I began to develop my common sense. I learned not to push tooo hard to do one more pushup, or I could strain an arm muscle and end up not being able to do any pushups for 6 weeks while my arm healed.
I do what I think is necessary to try and increase muscle, flexibility, and balance, so that I will be less likely to have an accident or fall, and to stay healthy. I'm not built to be able to do pullups/chinups. No way I can lift 115 lbs (my weight), even with both arms/hands.
I do pull-ups, chin-ups and push-ups every other day: 3 sets of 7 pull-ups, 3 sets of 7 chin-ups followed by 3 sets of 25 pushups (military style).
I could not do even one pull-up or chin-up before starting going to the gym at 48. I have not been to the gym since retiring over 6 years ago. I did not resume my full workouts with home equipment (weight lifting, treadmill, pull-ups, chin-ups and push-ups) until 2 years ago and could only do half of what I used to do before. It took a year to get my strength and endurance back to the previous levels. It is use it or loose it.
My goal is either to do 3 sets of 10 pull-ups, 10 chin-ups, 40 push-ups or 4-5 sets at my current reps.
