That is was happens when Nevada persuades California businesses (and sometimes their employees) to relocate to Nevada by offering business incentives to move to Nevada. Nevada loves and needs the extra business but doesn't want Californians to move to their state. As a Libertarian living in Southern California I hope all of the liberals move there.

-Cheers.

I have wondered about this phenomenon also and I believe that a state composed of many wealthy people is tempted to tax them at a higher rate because the disposable income will still be large and they won't complain. When the state has large sources of revenue it can offer better benefits to indigents. When this occurs the under class swoops into the state like hungry seagulls.

I also live in Southern California but I am moving to a better state. I have read when our residents leave they sully their new home. Denver is one example. So is the state of Nevada and I think it is a shame. I am not certain about Idaho. I think Washington ( Seattle was already left wing ). Even Orange County is moving left. I think we need 100 states instead of 50. If Washington were divided into two parts East and West then the US senate would gain two republicans. Every liberal state must have a large portion of conservatives

It does not have the highest per capita poverty rates, because those are reserved for red states like Texas which is 46th in the nation. Per capita, California is middle of the road for welfare. I was born and raised in California and paid those taxes my entire life, and it cracks me up that people come for the money that red states don't have and then complain. Neither red, or blue, but what good comes from seeking such negatives about the greatest state in the nation? You should be proud to be a part of it.

That is simply not true! Most poor people do not have the means to just relocate to the friendliest welfare state. If you did a little research you would find that most homeless or poor people remain pretty close to where they grew up. But, I guess if your goal is to make an excuse for denying assistance to the poor, disabled or elderly your's is just about as good as any

It does have one third of all the welfare receipients in the nation. 33% of welfare recipients for one state is obscene.

That was my impression too when I visited last May! Say what you want about Las Vegas, but the place is clean, the roads are maintained and the downtown is up-and-coming!

Reno's downtown, by comparison, is an armpit -- and a scary one at that!

I know Las Vegas back in the 80s compared to what it looks like now. It looks like a big Trash Can, The hotels are overdone, like Disneyland. This is what Reno Nevada will become. With People who are developers that want to put track homes all over the place. We don't have the infrastructure, we don't have the water, we don't have the roads, we don't have the schools., We are getting a lot more graffetti. The fire issues the sets the horrible smoke in our Reno area has made a lot of people sick. Imagine if we have a lot more cars and we become worse the CA/LA with smog.

We have a SAD, special assessment district in place. The County can come along at tax you up to the ying yang in one scope. 20 thousand, a hidden state tax, your choice to pay at one go or pay in installments with interest. That is your choice. You have soo many HOA's that make your lives miserable. You have a lot of corruptions. You have people take advantage. I remember when Vegas was small and more friendly and rural. What it is today, is corrupt, why a lot of people who ruined CA want to turn NV into a liberal state and that is where we are headed. Harry Reid is a crook. Let me tell you. I remember when CA was a beautiful state back in the 70 and 80s, today, all the people that want to leave are forgetting they want what CA is and turn NV into a Trash state, I am watching this happening today. People fighting the Washoe County. If you don't believe me. You better dam do your homework. Because I am watching it. These developers do not give a dam and will cram tons of apartment all over the place. Kitty Jung believes in living where you work.

A lot of jobs has been lost, more business are getting tax up to the ying yang. We have more crime out here. Don't think your beauty is going to last.

I doubt I'll ever get a response to this but I have to say it.

What you are describing is manipulating the electoral college so more Republicans will get in the Senate by ways other than, well, VOTING THEM IN. That is the same as gerrymandering and is not legal. You are 100% wrong if you are saying that there are more Republicans than Democrats. If that were the case then Obama would not have won the popular vote twice. (And I am sure Republicans voted for him too!)

I hope you do not/did not move to Nevada.

This is incorrect, and Texas has more people on assistance with almost half the population.
