What's it sound like? I don't think most Americans know a whole lot outside of their own immediate day to day life. Most probably couldn't locate the mid-east on a map.

Ditto! The majority of Americans are quite ignorant. Not just in geography but in science, history and other basic principles. For example, many of them believe that the earth is 6000 years old, that the country was founded as a Christian nation and that evolution is a lie.
