I'm a male in my 50s, I won't pretend to understand the pressures that an unwanted/unplanned pregnancy puts on a woman. It's a historical fact that women who decide they MUST terminate a pregnancy WILL seek an abortion, legal or not. I don't think they should have to die at the hand of some butcher because of that decision.
You said it. Making abortion illegal will not stop abortions ... these anti-abortion people make it seem like abortions started happening in 1972.

I haven't seen either of the Clinton/Obama speeches so I can't comment on that. For what it's worth, I feel that beyond supporting affirmative action and other intended equal opportunity programs, the majority of black churchgoers are actually relatively conservative. Bush made a bit of inroads with this when he invoked the "scary" spectre of gay marriage in '04. However, historic Louisiana politics aside, he lost that advantage and made it that much tougher for McCain or whomever after the initial response to Hurricane Katrina.

I do feel though that today when one thinks "religious" or "Christian", one is likely to assume "conservative". That's due to the success of the religious right in defining spirituality in this country. The religious left is definitely out there but, for whatever reason, their voice is not heard so much. I can't think of a single syndicated show on Sunday morning - let alone on CBN or TBN - where the preachers claim to be progressive or liberal. However, I would love to be proven wrong.

keeping the govt nose out of our business? hmm, like smoking regulations, gun control, taxes for social programs. Funny, they dont want the govt in their lives when they want to destroy a life but they do when they want to control others lives.

Making abortion illegal is the point, we all know that their are opportunists who have been killing babies from the beginning and women who desire to do the same, it didnt start in 1972 and no one has every said it did--but the government getting into it started in 1972 and so we are working to get the government OUT of it.

the same person who appointed you judge and jury of the child. It is not an accepted medical procedure, many many people do not accept it at all.

Right. Until they're born they're puppies. They don't become humans until magically just before birth....

Funny you mention smoking REGULATIONS and not making it ILLEGAL when we know it has dire health affects.

Let's be realistic, it's still legal because a lot of $$$$$ are being made and the morality be damned.

Well, it seems to be accepted by the AMA which I'm sure is medically more knowledgable than most folks.

And for those who don't accept it? It's simple! Don't have one.

the AMA when they are found to promote giving medication that can be hazzardous to ones health, and when they promoted smoking before the 60s then they were smarter than the average person medically? Ha ha, dont think so.

murder of a child is morally wrong, and while I wouldnt have an abortion, we still have an obligation to overturn bad and murderous laws--like we did in overturning Plessy v Ferguson with law that ended segregation in public facilities. racism is racism, just as murderering a child is murderering a child.
