I'm laughing because I know what Bnai Brith is, AND that I did something similar, phet! My 64 year old ears heard "Bali Hai", from the musical South Pacific. I immediately *flashed* on my daughter, on some Polynesian island, wearing a hula skirt, and offering baskets of fruit to a giant stone god!
Luckily, she straightened me out.
I've only read the Wikipedia page about it so far, but it sounds fascinating.
Bali Ha'i may call you
Any night, any day
In your heart you'll hear it call you
Come away, come away
Bali Ha'i will whisper on the wind of the sea
Here am I, your special island
Come to me, come to me
Your own special hopes,
Your own special dreams
Loom on the hillside and shine in the Streams
Hi mordant...
''The religion was initially seen as a sect of Islam because of its origins.
Most religious specialists now see it as an independent religion, with its religious background
in Shiʻa Islam being seen as analogous to the Jewish context in which Christianity was established.''
Yes, initially. And that was not accurate as I see, when I read his words...he was an
''independent, free lancing'' Mystic.

That's it!
My mom used to work as a Buyer for Macy's in NY in the 1960's. Every so often, she'd receive some 'perks' for her job.
One day, she brought home the record (remember those?) of South Pacific. She was a HUGE fan of movies and musicals.
I was all of what...six? Maybe seven years old when I first listened to it? But I played that thing over and over again.
By the time I was 11, and in Catholic school, the choir (which I was part of) had to sing songs from South Pacific. We sang Some Enchanted Evening,You've Got To Be Taught, along with a few others, and yes...Bali Hai.
* I used to belt out Bloody Mary, much to my Catholic grandmother's distaste because it had the word "damn" in the song. She insisted I change it to the word "darn."

You are talking about the Bab, and I agree but his followers have made it another hierarchical "Catholic-like" religion with all the trappings of authoritarian nonsense. Its universality resonates with me, though and I did initially give it some scrutiny, Miss H.

I'm not so much concerned with what his "followers made it." I'm more interested in the wisdom behind the philosophy...
...which seems to differ from "Catholic-like", and is more in tune with people as a whole.
Oh, Mystic, I was hoping you'd chime in to this!
Thanks!.
I'm still wondering what "universality" means to these people. In 'their' eyes.
Sadly, that is where the "Catholic-like" adjective applies. In the eyes of his current followers, THEIR religious beliefs are what SHOULD be universal! But to the Bab, ALL religions are about the same and ONLY God, which I obviously agree with. They just have different culturally diverse and biased (and often misguided) beliefs about God. Unfortunately, his followers have built on its Islamic origin in much the same way that Christianity built on its Hebrew origins. We are a perverse species indeed, Mink!
