I have a particular hate on for the Calvary Chapel.

One of it's mega churches is 1/2 mile from my condo in Florida. Sunday mornings are a zoo trying to go past there, which is the only route I can take. Police block a PUBLIC roadway so the faithful can get out of the parking lot, and rush to their brunches.

They have three services each Sunday, so one can't avoid the crap that goes on in the morning, and there are multiple times during the week they have traffic jams because of some program or another.

As far as I am concerned, if you need to go to your church, fine, but don't inconvenience the rest of us who could not give a flying fig about whatever sky fairy you think will magically make you live for ever.

Yeah, it makes me angry every time I think about it. What RIGHT do church goers have over the general or secular public to block traffic for THEIR convenience?

grrrrrrrrrr........

You mean the ones who proudly are members of that church.

Yeah, it went over real well.

I'll go you one better. It's one thing to have police out there, but.....

There's a very large church here in San Diego right next to a major shopping venue. Services go from 8 am to 5 pm. They have their own people out there stopping and directing traffic so the large crowds exiting services can cross the road and drive away. People coming to shop are subject to the church traffic police, which are simply volunteers.

I'm surprised no one has complained about that one.

Yikes, you right, that is worse. I suspect that there is an occasional outburst of road rage over that.

All of them? The mayor, your city councilman, the police chief? They all attend that church? They all dismissed your concerns? Hard to believe.

I'd be surprised if any didn't. They have their jobs to think about.

I have a similar situation when in Florida but keep this in mind.
Having police direct traffic when large numbers of cars are vying for position at an intersection with no traffic light may not be in deference to any religion but in the interest of public safety.
Rather than complaining generally about the situation perhaps the thing to push for would be a traffic signal that grants equal stop and go rights.

Yes, but I am not a permanent resident.... I just pay taxes, but can't vote. Essentially I was given the shoo-shoo pill in the hope I would flock off by myself.

Many a pastor has fallen from grace like that.

The pastor who baptized me was defrocked and jailed for molesting little boys. (I wasn't one of them, thankfully.)

The pastor who led the church I attended in college was booted out for an extramarital affair with another married woman.

The pastor who led the church I attended in Texas for over two years had been booted from the mega-church he led, for an extramarital affair with another woman (whose marital status was unknown).

And that's just me. These guys didn't even make the news. It's well known that many pastors are just as "sinful" as anyone else... often more so. It's well known that many Catholic priests abuse boys. Now when I say "many", I may still mean "less than half" such that they're in the minority.

But the point is that these people who are supposed to be such great men of God, and so fantastically knowledgeable about the Bible and things theological, really don't have much of a clue.

That could very easily be because Christianity doesn't make sense and a lot of what is in the Bible is just plain false. I've been a Christian for almost all of my life but lately I've recognized that there is much in the Bible that is false and/or completely illogical. And then when people try to explain it, their explanations are so outrageous that it seems as though they're completely brainwashed. They will defend their faith to the ends of the earth even when it is proven false, and if they get to a point where they can't defend it without looking stupid, they'll either run from the conversation or they'll say "I don't know - that's just what I believe". They'll defend these pastors whom they loved, and if the pastor starts a new church, they'll come up with some garbage reason to continue attending - "he has atoned for his sins and has received God's forgiveness, and even his sins can be covered by the blood of Jesus". Right. Well, I can tell you that the pastor who had fornicated in the past, whose church I attended (and led as music director), was not the type of person who should be a pastor. He was, instead, more of a dictator. That's why I left. He may not have been sleeping around anymore... who knows... he did have a girlfriend... but that's beside the point. Many times people will become pastors to escape the skeletons in their closets... only to find out that the skeletons are too strong.
