What concerns me is everything I've seen says it's going to be a fast moving storm?
Starting Friday night and should be finished by noon on Saturday. That's not a lot of travel
time to get photographs...

I thought that too! I came from Durham at rush hour and my entire commute had been striped

Yeah, it's really difficult to get a good pure snow storm here though. Even the models do show the first maybe hour or 2 starting off as rain and sleet. The latest GFS, which has been showing the smallest snow totals for the past few days, has been trending higher fpr...like 7 runs in a row now. Came out 30 mins ago, puts down 12.4" at RDU. This is what the Euro has been saying, around 9-12. I'm weary, though. These models have screwed with us before.

Very suspect of these numbers.....over a foot in the Triangle? That's more than double what most other forecasts are saying.

Seriously though...I'm usually all for a good snow event around here....but this one COULD NOT come at a worse time. Supposed to pick up the new pup from foster home Saturday morning.....out in Clayton.

So for you old timers, is it possible for us to get snow without ice? The two winters I've had here, are always snow on ice...
Nope. You get ice with snow in NC unless you get a light dusting and a very warm day to follow it and dry up all the snow that melted.

I think freezing temps are a lock so definitely not going to rain, but after 11 years here I've realized the forecast tend to overestimate accumulation. My money is on 1-2 inches tops.

Remember the 22" in January 2000? I think it was predicted for maybe 5-7. By 11 p.m. there was 9" at the airport and by morning it was 22"

Since then, I tend to agree with NRG that the estimates typically seem to be higher than actual, but you know the old saying "Making predictions is difficult, especially when they're about the future."

That was the best!! I loved it...but now as a parent I'm a little less enthusiastic. But come what may, we'll make the best of it!

Sorry. Can you pick up the puppy Friday evening? Maybe you can work something out with the foster family.

Buy your ice melter today, not after you see ice. That will be too late. Get it on the beer, bread, milk, TP run.

I got a big bag last winter, after they restocked and weather was fine. Hoping I don't need to open it this weekend, but it is ready if I need to.
