Thanks...it wouldn't have bothered me so much had I not been eating at the time, but that's a good idea anyway.

When Ed and I went to OK in February to look at homes I walked pidgeoned toed behind him. I wanted to walk around a pond at one of the houses we liked but was to afraid. I will be back in July to try to concour that fear. It would be nice to ride my horse, hike, fish without this fear. I was so disapointed in myself.

You could get some high snake-proof hunting boots, that would help a lot if it really worries you. I've heard there are copperheads around my house - there are some really old open drains, courtesy of the WPA all over - but I haven't seen any. Bugs, now, that's a different story. I hope you don't have any bug phobias, there are all kinds! Fortunately, they don't bother me, as long as it's not sugar ants in my kitchen sink. Those I wage war on.

I came home from my vacation this week to find bugs everywhere. Black beetle like things crawling aimlessly. Something that looks like small scorpians of many sizes all over the place. My cat is in cat toy heaven. It was too cold for the ants, though they have been visiting the sink on warm days for some time.

I will co exist with bugs as long as they don't bite me or become too much of a problem. The cat loves flies (gives her a chance to practice aerodynamics) but I don't so the screens should help there.

There is supposedly a snake living in my shed though I never saw it. There is aslo a stray cat so I think the snake may have moved on. I'd love to see some of the non poisionous snakes that are said to live here. I'll just give them their space what ever kind and let them give me mine.

With snakes in Oklahoma the shape of the snake's head is key. Rattlesnakes, copperheads and cotton mouths are all pit vipers. They have a kind of triangular shaped head. Also the eyes are set in the head in a way that looks different from other more harmless snakes. They also have recessed pits further back from the eyes. Best thing to do is look at some photos of rattlesnakes and then compare the facial differences to images of corn snakes, king snakes, etc.

Good points. Those snakes that are non-venomous are often mistaken for the venomous kind, and killed because of that.

I don't even like harming venomous snakes, but when they are lurking about your property and you could come across them unexpectedly, my choice would be to remove or kill them. I don't want anyone in my family being bitten.

If it's in an uninhabited area I will just make a wide berth and let them go about their merry way.
