That would have been a brown tarantula.....they make great pets, they are non-aggressive, and they eat lots of pesky bugs......why would you want to kill it? If you had pet it a little it would have followed you home.

This was no tarantula,
I've run into many of them and left them alone.
This thing was pitch black, long thing legs and no fur, just some bristles on the legs.
