thanks for posting a totally useless response. It would help if you would explain why you feel this way...

If you notice the post count of that poster, and realize it is likely a troll just trying to get a fight started, you can understand that it is best to not respond too much to that type of troll. If anything, in the privacy of your own home, take pity on someone who has so little to offer the rest of the world (or even their own community) that they have to seek this kind of venue and that kind of post to draw attention to themselves. More than likely it is an 8 year old with nothing to do......either that it is someone older but with a childlike mind.

Either way, if you do nothing and don't respond, they do something silly like try to stimulate the argument at which point Synopsis or LR bans them, or they disappear to never post again.....at least under that name.

As a matter of practice, when you see a post from someone who is a first or second time poster, you will notice that the good ones either ask a serious question about an area or event, or they respond in a helpful manner to someone else's serious question. If their first post is some sort of negative response that has nothing to contribute, it can generally be accepted that the individual posting is a troll.

You should see some of the ones popping out of the woodwork on the Alaska forum. A lot are media trolls, looking for whatever political dirt they can find, and those get rather short shrift. The only problem with them is that if they can't find what they want, they're liable to make it up, and eventually it will show up in the National Enquirer, or something similar.

Have any adjacent landowners of the Casinos had bad experiences? I share the entrance to my farm/cabin and soon my home (to take advantage of the home tax credit before it expires) with the Cherokee Casino being built just North of Ramona. They contacted me 2 years ago to let me know they would be sharing our entrance, which started what I thought was a positive dialog until recently when they have gone back on all their promises of assistance to offset the burden of the casino to my family. I fear that I made the mistake of trusting the cooperative things that they said, and never got an attorney involved. Now that they have gained approvel from ODOT (who has never responded to my questions or concerns since construction began 3 months ago) to take over the shared drive and limit my access to merging in the highway right of way. It makes me wonder if all the rumors of what led to the turnabout of state congressmen to vote for the gambling expansion in Oklahoma involving theats on themselves and their families are true. I had to file an open records request just to find out how MY drive was goiing to be modified and how my usage would be impacted, as well as the runoff being sent my way. I showed up last week hoping to spread fertilizer, and gravel was piled in front of my gate and the drive was cut so I could not get to my property until this Monday. Why didn't they let me know as I almost got stuck paying a few day extra rent on the spreader or even worse if I hadn't driven by first. The cooperative spirit from the Cherokee 2 years ago has been replaced with promises and put-offs as they push full steam ahead at shifing all safe use of the drive onto their property. They told me Tuesday that I would be forced to attempt merging on the highway right of way instead of a safe distance before the highway as shared driveways are intended. They claim that me and my families use of the entrance for our 'farm' is not significant enough for us to be allowed to do it safely. I will not detail how shared entrances are intended to work, so just do a Web search and you will see what I am talking about. Am I being unreasonable wanting unhindered and safe use of my one and only dedicated entrance?

A second major issue is the change in runoff being directed to my property. The fields, trees and grass on the cassino site are being replaced with several acres of pavement and rofftops with 99% runoff ending up on my property. All vegitation has beeen removed on the ramaining propperty which has a much higher runoff factor than the previous vegitation as well. All drainage from the casino site is is directed to the highway frontage and flows downhill (south) to the shared entrance. The 18-24" culvert at the original drive has now been replaced with two 36" culverts, ensuring that peak flow is 8 times as much as before. The ditch flows for about 500 feet after the culverts, and then turns onto my property where I currently have a pond with a small culvert. Everything on my property in this runoff waters path will undoubtedly be washed out at the first big rain after the pavement and buildings are in place. Am I being unreasonable to ask for some help to perform modifications on my property to handle the runoff they plan to send my way?

As I was writing this message, I just heard from the Director of ODOT and I have a meeting at 4pm today on site. Hopefully they will ammend the driveway permit to require that I be allowed to use the extended drive - unhindered - and without limitations of 'only your family can possibly use it'. I will repost with an update after the meeting, as I am hoping for a positive turnaround and not having to divert living funds while starting a new business to an attorney just to get this resolved in a reasonable manner. Hopefully communication with the Cherokee will return to the spirit of cooperation that I first believed in our initial discussions.

Interesting. Can you post a link to the story on the threats? I would like to read more on that.

Default To all who wrote against casinos and smoking

Yep, you are right, gambling and cigarettes can be addicting and cause harm if a person becomes addicted.

BUT: so are drugs, alcohol, pain medications, psychotropic medications and fast food and sugar and coffee and certain other compulsive behaviors.

SO outlaw them all. The problem can't be solved by outlawing these activities and substances. I don't know the percentages of people who become addicted vs the percentage of people who don't, do you?

Being a little santimonious, aren't you?
