I know being under the influence of major cities isn't a big reason people move to western ND, but when people in the area want to go to a concert, or attend a conference, or are rooting for sports teams, which city do they tend to look to? Or if someone says "the big city" with no context, which one comes to mind?

Minneapolis-St. Paul? Denver? Seattle? Chicago, even?

If they want to see a hockey match, then probably a UND game. UND is probably the go to for Basketball, and Football too.

Also relatively speaking ND is not far from Toon Town (Saskatoon), Regina, and Winni-the pooh-peg in Canada. Winnipeg has a football team. The other two cities have major junior hockey.

There is a number of Indian/native Casinos in ND, and SD. Those usually have a 1000 person even center. I was actually going to make a thread about event centers at these out of the way, outside of LV casinos. These centers usually host like concerts, conventions, or comedy shows, even boxing/mma, some kind of performance.

I live out here in rural western ND. When people talk of taking a trip to the big city they mean either Minot or Bismarck. Minot if its a day trip, Bismarck if its for a weekend or a few days. Most people out here have never been to Minneapolis, Denver, etc and have no interest in doing so. If they did, they wouldn't live here.
