Xaverian HS (now co-ed) is in Bay Ridge which is still a safe part of Brooklyn.

In Park Slope Brooklyn there is (all-girls) St. Saviour High School. and there is a (coed) grammar school also, called Saint Savior Catholic Academy.

In Bay Ridge Brooklyn there is (all-girls) Fontbonne High School. There are two (coed) grammar schools nearby -- Saint Patrick's and Bay Ridge Catholic Academy (formed when two churches combined their schools.)

Both Saint Saviour and Fontbonne are smaller than Xaverian -- that may factor in your decision depending on what your daughter may like.

Out of curiosity, how did the school approach alumni with the plan to go co-ed, and how did the alumni respond?

Alumni were reached out to but didn't have lock on decision. Parents and others had input as well.

Very long story short Xaverian went way of Countess Moore on SI and countless other formerly single sex RC high schools in going co-ed.

Don't forget Xaverian long had lower school (Genesis) that from start was co-ed. Keeping the high school male locked females out from high quality Xaverian education.

we werent asked.... the school was viable boys only and still could be.

The problem was that there was a lack of girls catholic HS available with several closed.

For RC schools things generally run K-8 then 9-12.

Convent of the Sacred Heart

Marymount School of New York

Notre Dame School

St. Vincent Ferrer

These are all good, but not sure if tuition is in your price range.
I would add Dominican Academy to this list.

Not long after St. John's Villa on SI announced it was closing Bishop Kearney in Bensonhurst followed.

It does seem all girls Catholic schools have issues, while boys seem to be doing well enough.

Years ago now they closed St. Peter's on SI for girls, but the boys school has remained open and doing well.

Notre Dame on SI seems to be fine, but the sisters have closed other schools including famed Institute of Notre Dame in Baltimore, MD.

They've ditched the white gloves and now can wear pants (saddle shoes have remained) but St. Joseph Hill on SI is still going strong as well. So there must be value seen by good number of parents for all girls Catholic high schools in some communities.

Overall would say the old ways of brothers for boys and sisters for girls is fast dying out. Many dioceses cannot support duplicate high schools for single sex education.

May be true for the Diocese run HS's but Xaverian and Fontbonne are run privately but are Catholic. I.e. the Bishop of Brooklyn doesnt run them.

St. Edmund was a HS run by the parish but has gone private with a Board of Trustees.
