Not every job requiring a degree means you need to have a tech degree. Amazon would hire people to do general office work, HR, advertising, etc. And some of this WOULD be local Black and Hispanic.

The city would love to get Amazon to move to some place like the Bronx. De Blasio doesn't have to worry about getting reelected for mayor, and if Amazon chose NYC, de Blasio would use that to try to launch a run for office. Maybe Bezos would give him some money.
So low paying jobs?

What people want are the 100k plus salaries amazon states in their pitch. Security jobs and janitor positions are a dime a dozen in this city with a million buildings. We shouldn’t be shelling out millions of tax breaks to something that won’t really change our city for the better

Coming to the Bronx would lead to rapid gentrification, get ready for more and more protest if this were to ever happen

Newark is a much better fit. Employees can still live in manhattan if they want without giving nyc the rest of the burden from the deal

No, because I bought twenty years ago.

At some point the city is just going to have to up the overly restrictive zoning it has in a lot of places, and let the developers build.

We need to fix mta, increase affordable housing and invest in our public schools. Before we do all of that fix our checks and balance system in ever aspect of government to lessen corruption on the public and political level

Then we can talk about an amazon headquarters

And how do you propose to pay for all that? Keep in mind, you pro-socialism liberals love your expensive unions that drives up the cost to build/fix anything but don’t like tax generating corporations or wealthy people.

Give it to Newark: the City needs it.

And then the execs can live in West Orange and the plebes in East Orange.

If people from the Bronx want a shot at 100k jobs, they'd better have the education and the experience to go for it.

Protests? It's for kids. Protests don't do any good. There have been a lot of liberal protests. Didn't stop Trump from becoming the President.

Rapid gentrification in Harlem has lead to no real protests, so I'm not even sure people in the Bronx would protest in any noticeable numbers. The same ten people come out and scream at everything.

A lot of Blacks and Latinos also work in the service sector, so they'd be working in kitchens, dishrooms, as servers, etc if they are only high school educated.

Jobs for 100k or more require the relevant bachelor's degree, if not the relevant MASTERS degree. Of course people from the Bronx can get that education, but it will take time, money, and dedication.

Public schools are paid for in large part by property taxes. So if you want to invest in public schools under the current taxation scheme, gentrification is a wonderful idea.

The MTA should largely be financed by the city, and property taxes can take care of that as well. In short an Amazon headquarters would help tremendously in those goals.

Which is why de Blasio has been cool with gentrification.

And to be honest, you don’t have to be working for Amazon to reap the benefits of having them in your city. Big companies like that need food, supplies, service requirements that are not tech related. Bronx companies that provide that will hit the jackpot and when they expand, they will hire locally as well. That’s how an area grows and prosper.
