Newark has the Airport, but is still close to NYC and reachable by path train. I can see Newark getting the headquarters.

NJ will do good if they get picked for Amazon head quarters. First of all. NJ needs a big economic income jump. Also if Newark gets Amazon, this move will also help NYC. NJ is a sad state of affairs. Large swaths of its population work in NYC and Philadelphia due to low wages the state has to offer. If Newark gets Amazon, this can cause many Northern NJ residents to think otherwise of seeking employment in NYC and try to remain employed instate. Also lets not forget the support industries that are clients to support Amazon which will also see employment growth in their industries as well. With Amazon in Newark and NJ residents getting dibs on employment, this can free up jobs here in NYC which are held my tens of thousands of NJ residents who work here. Thus allowing NYC residents to pick up the employment slack once held by NJ residents who worked in NYC. With a light rail system, Amtrak, two NJ transit stops and Path train stop, nearby airport and Rutgers university. Amazon Headquarters is what Newark needs at this very moment.

God forbid Amazon should move into the Bronx and give some black or Caribbean people a chance to move up the economic ladder.

More people is better, higher rents mean it's more desirable to live here.

I've seen places with cheap rents. There are lots of them. Do you want to live there? If you did, you wouldn't be here.

New York City and Newark, NJ, make top 20 in list of cities for second Amazon headquarters | abc7ny.com

Unless the black and Hispanic people in the Bronx all have tech degrees, ain’t no move up on the economic ladders.

Amazon most likely will hire and bring workers from elsewhere while taking all these tax incentives from New York

We don’t need amazon, they know exactly where they want to be they are just seeing which idiot politician throws them the most tax breaks

The tax base of Newark would increase and they would have more money for public services like schools, police, etc.

Amazon could not only collaborate with Rutgers, but Princeton, Columbia, NYU, Cornell, University of Pennysylvania, and CUNY all have campuses nearby.

Are you volunteering to pay an extram $1500 dollars for rent? High rents in NYC don't drive poor people out. You just add more and more people to apartments.

People used to more middle class lifestyles are the ones more likely to split.

Not necessarily. For starters every big company hires people like janitors and other service type jobs that require no education, and yes Amazon would hire those with just a high school degree for those jobs. Security jobs too.

Not every job requiring a degree means you need to have a tech degree. Amazon would hire people to do general office work, HR, advertising, etc. And some of this WOULD be local Black and Hispanic.

The city would love to get Amazon to move to some place like the Bronx. De Blasio doesn't have to worry about getting reelected for mayor, and if Amazon chose NYC, de Blasio would use that to try to launch a run for office. Maybe Bezos would give him some money.
