Interesting read about the Sanitation police. I bet they earn more than the NYPD minus the OT.

They are armed and have the power to make arrests. I can't wait until Bloomberg leaves office.

Thanks GT, your insight is very helpful. Another quick question I had posted earlier: Does the starting pay bump up after 6 months like the NYPD, FDNY, & DOC? I remember under the old contract the starting pay was $26k & then it bumped up to $30k after 6 months.

I am #5,560,doesn't look good for me.

Anybody here work for DCAS?
5,560? youll definitely get called especially now with the new contract you have to be 21 or over. from my list there in the 9,000's easy.

the last exam didnt HIRE 6000 people. just cuz they get up to 6,000 list number doesnt mean everyone got hired b4 him. they hired about 2,000 and it took them about 9,000 names to get to there goal.

dsny rant link....
Copsandwich....How much time do u have on the NYPD? I got some info from my friend. 12 holidays off a year, every sunday off & rotating day. Top pay at end of contract march 2011 is $67,000, long is $1,495 , $900 for uniform allowance and if you work on the truck piccking up garbage you will be getting $63 a day additional.

At end of contract you will make about $85,000---PLUS TIP$$$----- with no night diff or OT. If you work a Sunday or your other day off it is all DOUBLE TIME but there isnt as much OT as NYPD until the snow hits. They are paid weekly. Once you become a senior guy with 15 or more years you can work a sinlge man truck and make about $96 a day

After we get the 3, 3.15, 4,4,4,4 ( 6 year deal) we will be at top pay of

$74,062--Base
$3,700--long at 5 years
$3,133--holiday pay
$1,100 --uniform

$82,000 no night diff or OT

i have heard my friend talk about it but i never got too deep into it..ill ask next time.
your pretty accurate with your numbers except theres no such thing as a single man truck. theres the aff roll off trucks but those are tissues and you cant bump someone out of that spot unless they give up that tissue. and we got a 4 year contract not a 6 year contract.

sanitation police make base salary of a sanitation worker. and they usually dont get any overtime.you have to have a clean record and take a psych test for the gun permit. but you can take tests and still move up the rankings like a regular sanitation worker.

To answer my own question.....i guess this is the "official" DSNY thread. It's getting more posts than the other! Thanks for posting everyone, it offers the prospective future san-man with insight into this excellent nyc job. To JackieBoy's question of the "bump-up" after six months, I think its an annual increase of ($7,500 per) ..to top out at a whopping ..$67,000 (not including) O/T. It's no wonder that well over 30K took this exam!!
