Long Valley (Washington Township) schools are very good; however, schools in Chester and Mendham are better.

Go to njdoe.gov (new jersey department of education) and you can check all school systems in NJ by looking under NJ school report cards. This will give you a multitude of information from average income to average family size to school information

Dear ehs,

I can speak by real personal experience. As I have lived in North Edison, and graduated from JPS HS. Yes it is a good school, however if you do your homework-look at the statistics and compare schools. I currently live in Basking Ridge and my son attends school here. If your comments, views, and grammar are any indication of the current education JPS is offering...I say no thank you!!!

I believe Holmdel, NJ has one of the top rated public school districts in the country. It has been featured in some national magazines (ie Time magazine I believe?), along with a few other schools around the country. However you will pay big $$$ for a home there, but many people who live there do commute to NYC (although the commute is not short). Area wise, I would classify it as the quintessential surburb & a very nice atmosphere to raise your children. If I had children & the income necessary, Holmdel would be at the top of my list as an area to live.

I find it ironic that in most cases the best school districts just happens to be the district where the poster lives. There sure are some smart people posting on this board, everyone lives in the best school district.

I laugh at the very same fact very often. However, if you are responding to the post above you, which references Holmdel, it happens to be reasonably accurate. According to Newsweeks annual ranking of the Top High Schools in America, 2007 edition, Holmdel is the 501 ranked HS in America, the 10th in NJ. You can see the entire list here.

yes I've never lived in Holmdel myself -...see other question I have posted on the board . But it is a nice area that I am familiar with, I had read some articles about (in the proverbial Dr's office waiting room) & I didn't see it mentioned so I thought I'd help by posting about it.

PP's observation is similar to mine though, even IRL, it seems some people do get defensive about the area they live in when it comes to quality of school questions. Not sure why - as I doubt I'll ever be able to provide my kids with a Holmdel type school district (if I should ever have them) but I'd like to think I'd be honest with myself wrscpt how the schools compare...
