Anyone getting worried about this potential storm? they say it may be a big one. Im just hoping not, after last years irene i know so many people's home got runined. I just nearly missed losing my heating system in my basement, we received lots of water down there,we do have a sump pump but no french drain,we had to go down there for 7 hours every 20 minutes and pump out the water with the shop vac and sweep the water into pump and constantly let it run. luckily we didnt lose power.
Yeah, it looks like it could be a significant storm and could happen during full moon which could make coastal flooding worse. Still too far to be sure of the track, but definitely watching this one.
If you are dependent on sump pump and an additional pump (and shop vac), you should really consider investing in a generator (and do it soon, before they start to disapper as the storm gets closer and the media gets onto it)
Yes i will be going to get a generator. Nexus i hope your right!!!
The Water is too cold to sustain a Hurricane , so a Nor'easter it would be...but it looks like NJ will be missed...Eastern New England would get scrapped..
As far as inland points of NJ are concerned, a nor'easter and a hurricane have about equivalent destructive potential. You just don't get a nifty name with a nor'easter.
National Hurricane Center is predicting a miss; accuweather is also predicting a miss, but they give a wider range including some paths which hit while it goes extratropical.
As someone who lost power for 5 days during Irene and 5 days during the October snowstorm...and who is physically disabled and confined to the home, yes, I am worried. Now, I always liked bad weather, rain, T-storms, snowstorms, etc. So following the storm and seeing the downpour would be really neat. However, the "neatness" of it would rapidly end as soon as the power goes out. Then after 20 minutes, it absolutely is terrible. However, I am not going to sit around and worry about things I can not control.
The left edge of the 5 day probability cone scrapes Atlantic City. However it does not need to come that close to bring lots of water. It is also interacting with a upper level trough that can keep it a bit farther west as it moves in, which would be bad news. There is also a good chance it tracks far out over the Atlantic and only brings us conventional rainfall.
Not taking chances however. Generator will be tested tomorrow. I also ordered a 3/4 horsepower StormPro sump pump which will be delivered on Friday. I will take out my existing sump pump and plumb this one in. This pump is a beast and can pump out anything that Sandy can think of. And if not, I have a bunch of other pumps lying around to help.
anybody have a good recommendation for a generator to power a sump pump and a shop vac in case,
not too worried about fridge stuff at this point, need to protect the heating system in the basement. something from home depot like say around 500?
