Are you talking about Harrison next to Kearny?
If so, WOW- I never thought about Harrison being on the list.....I grew up in Harrsion about 10 yrs ago. and had my high school reunion there and I never would of thought the town had changed.
But I guessed with time and people moving from Newark to Harrison, things were going to change for the worse.
Here is a map I created that shows median household income of NJ towns by zipcode, using data from 2005. I think you'll find that almost all the worst towns are in red and orange, in contrast, the best towns are light or dark green:
Most of the bad areas are also the heavliy urbanized ones. The dark green areas may be good but you have to be a millionaire to afford them.
not true. offhand, i see a few dark green places where you can get housing for $350K or less. lebanon, basking ridge, long valley, montgomery (the dark green right above princeton).

hey mike - nice map. question - what towns make up the red blob of which newark is a part? there's got to be a few towns in that part - hillside, belleville, irvington, any more?
Location: Newton, NJ (but my heart is in Tennessee)

I see what you're saying. I was looking at Morris and Hunterdon counties where many attorneys at my firm live. The're all rich.

I blew the scale up so I could label the towns better, to answer your question:
Newark has multiple zip codes, none of which are well off.
I don't think Carteret's that bad. It just smells real bad.
