You don't have to be a cook, I am not looking for a recipe, just a local who can describe what a macaroni / pasta salad would look and taste like in South Carolina. I know all areas have their own way of making this dish. Some use vinegar and oil, while others use Mayonnaise. Some are sweet and some are not. Even the ingredients tossed in can vary depending on where you are at.

My husband was asked to make this salad for a school function. Although we have made hundreds of gallons in our life time, that was up north. Could someone help guide him in the right direction so he can avoid looking like a transplant? ... well, that is, until he starts talking

neecewh, darlin', if it's Southern, it's sweet and uses mayo (Duke's of course). If you get the dressing right, it don't matter what else you put in the salad. It's simple - mayo, a little sugar, a little lemon juice. Whip it till the sugar dissolves and everything's creamy. Taste it to make sure it has a little sweetness and tastes fattening.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Dukes? Really? I've seen it sitting on the shelf next to the Hellmans. I must tell you there is a certain level of apprehension involved in switching brands of Mayo, more so than packing up the family and moving 500 miles south. I'm gonna trust you on this one. Dukes it is.

Thanks again! As usual I can't rep you ....

Oh, you should see the look on my face lol. I couldn't get myself to switch brands if you tried bribing me. I'm sure PD is right, because as always, he is. Mayo and sugar. Blech. That's all I have to say!

Ah yes, indeed he is. That is why, as difficult as it is to switch, I will be using Dukes.

Oh my. If y'all only knew...

Give Duke's a try. Before long, you'll be eatin' it out of the jar with a spoon. For a special treat, make a banana sandwich with Duke's, sprinkled with brown sugar. Good stuff...

Oh thank goodness you posted le roi. After PawleysDude's last post I was beginning to think I had been a little hasty and that maybe my faith in him had been misplaced .... MAYO AND BANANA SANDWICH (just kidding PD ... although I'm thinking without consuming large amounts of alcohol I probably won't be trying that sandwich)
