We have a condo rented for a week starting this saturday located near Garden city.Is this area much safer than central myrtle,? Where are all of the people getting infected or is it unknown . Would you recommend cancelling the trip ? I see that The number of infections has doubled in the last 7 days in Horry county.
COVID 19 is essentially everywhere now. Some areas are more vigilant about testing than others but when going to a tourist destination that draws people from all over, count on it being everywhere. Transmission rates will be higher in areas where many people choose to not wear a mask. Myrtle Beach is one of those areas. Wear a mask when in close contact with other folks and wash your hands often.
The Grand Strand is VERY busy, with the usual summer crowds. There are no restrictions in place, with our guvnah believing everyone will "do the right thing." Rumor has it he also still believes in the Easter Bunny. A recent informal survey by the MB newspaper estimated about 20% of people were wearing masks, but lower in tourist areas.
The Garden City beaches are generally much less crowded than those in downtown MB. Beyond that, you are on your own. I wouldn't begin to make any recommendations regarding restaurants, stores, amusements, etc. Don't expect to see others - locals or visitors - doing the right thing. Prayer may be your best option.
We flattened the curve. Time to develop herd immunity. The more young people who get Covid 19 and recover, the more people who will stop spreading the disease, and the less the at-risk elderly and people with comorbidities will be at risk. Unless Covid 19 flad goes away some time this summer as SARS did, then we are all going to get this eventually. Hiding in a cave will only work as long as you are hiding in the cave. At some point, you are going to have to come out, and you will have to risk getting infected.
We can't wear masks and stand 6-feet apart for the next 50 years. At some point we have to get back to normal. Even after the 1918 flu, people eventually got back to normal.
Igor you have it a little wrong. Young people who recover may still be capable of shedding infectious virus particles even though their own body is safe. That’s part of the problem.

Please explain herd immunity to me. Flu viruses die off each year after enough people get it and can't spread it. You are saying "this time it is different"? or what?
If you are saying somebody might cough on them and they can still spread it that way, the point is, if milions less people are coughing due to herd immunity, then it dramatically lowers the risk of spreading it to all people.
WHAT?? With new cases setting records every day in multiple states across the US, please explain your version of "flattening the curve" to me.
And please don't tell me the only reason for the spike is more testing. In Mar/April, testing was primarily limited to those with symptoms or directly exposed, which should have yielded relatively high "% positives". Today we are doing widespread unrestricted testing, which should yield relatively lower "% positives". In Mar/Apr, % positives were in the 5% range, today, they're exceeding 10-15%. That's a very strange flattening of the curve.

Dr. Fauci: “Cautiously Optimistic” We Have Flattened the Curve
The liberal media keeps moving the goal posts. First it was flattening the curve with deaths, not it is just cases. It is time to develop herd immunity. That is much safer to do in the summer heat when Covid 19 dies much more easily than waiting until next winter to develop herd immunity.
Yes, we have flattened the curve. We haven't ended the infections, but we have flattened the curve.
Older folks with any medical issues will find it hard to survive "heard immunity .The people not wearing mask dont care and if our government cared we all would have a real medical approved mask by NOW!
