Hello, all. My husband and I are considering relocating to the Pawley's Island area (for a job on Pawley's). We are exploring whether or not housing will be within our budgeted guidelines without commuting more than 25-30 minutes maximum. My cursory look tells me that Pawley's Island itself will cost more than we want to pay to purchase a home. We would like to stay at $ 250,000 or below, min 2 bed 2 bath, garage, one level, 1,400-1,800 square feet. We wish to avoid areas that will be in a flood zone/flood insurance area. Coming from Florida, we well understand the water issues. It is my understanding that we would be in a flood insurance area on Pawley's. Other areas that appear workable are Georgetown, Murrell's Inlet and the southern area of Myrtle Beach. I am in my fifties and my husband is retired--schools are not an issue for us. Any thoughts or guidance is appreciated. Thank you much.
I live in Carolina Forest and travel to Pawleys every day to work. It takes me about 45 to 50 minutes to go and from so you could easily live in Murrells Inlet, Garden City or Surfside and get there in 30 minutes. There are many neighborhoods in Murrells Inlet that would fit your budget
Thank you. Inland is fine by us. Cost, of course, matters, but commuting time just as much so. We know we are not going to get "close" to water with our budget and that's ok.

I used to 'commute' from Murrells Inlet to Pawleys Island and it was about 20 minutes or so for me.
The weirdest thing about Pawleys is the complete lack of light pollution at night. It is pitch black, dark out. This time of year you have to be aware of deer on the side of the road.
If I had to move back to South Carolina, it would be Pawleys or Sullivans Island.
