Myrtle def isn't a "professional"type of town. Lot's of retiree's here who enjoy the beach, golf and early bird dinners. This certainly isn't Manhattan. Your best bet for "professional" town in the area...Charleston. If that's not enough...go north to Charlotte. And if that's not enough....NY, NY, it's one hellava town.

I'm Caucasian and my son is African American. I lived in Charleston SC and worried abt these same issues for my son. After relocating and living on Long Island the last two years , we are moving back. I love coastal SC. While I thought his future may be brighter in NY, and I had a fantastic job offer there, I wanted to go back ..This time to Surfside Beach/Murrell's Inlet. I admit I worry at times. However, some of these posts give me hope.

I know Conway inside and out due to my profession, and there are no professional organizations there for people of color. You will be able to find more African Americans there verses Myrtle Beach, however in terms of networking, and meeting people of a like mind, etc. it's very minuscule.

I relocated to SC over a year ago in myrtle beach are and a lot of the kids are biracial and a lot of blacks, people from the north (including myself) and a lot of them bring different attitudes and inclinations. Races seem to be working on the surface, can't tell you what's in there minds
