Has anyone enrolled their child in swim lessons here ? Where would you suggest? We moved to Surfside Beach, and my son is in love with ocean but has no idea how to swim. Thanks.

The family YMCA's are traditionally a good place to look.

Thanks. I found the y through google but thought there might be another option. The reviews for the y weren't great, so I was thinking someone might have experience with it.

Prestwick Country Club has swim lessons. We belong to the swim club but have not had the lessons (kids are already great swimmers), but I can tell you the folks there are super nice so I can't imagine them not being good.

Learning to swim in a pool is NOT like swimming in the ocean! Never rely on a child's swimming skill in the sea!!!

So true! My guys are good swimmers in the pool but the ocean still scares the heck out me. I drive my kids nuts because I am a "knee deep" mom. Of course swimming lessons are great for all kids, but someone should have ocean safety classes. I am not sure it would calm my nerves or make me feel better about my kids going in there, but you never know what someone might learn that could stick with them and be so usefully later.

As parents we also thought its better to teach how to swim to our kids. Altough our son was 5 he first started, we discovered that he could have started long ago. It took him 3 classes now he almost knows how to swim.

Wow. This was four years ago? Actually we found out Pepper Geddings has fabulous lessons. Unfortunately we tried various places on and off for a couple of years. Now, swimming is his favorite hobby next to reading, and he’s on their swim team. Thanks for the flashback of seeing this post. My only wish is I’d have started sooner at PG. I didn’t want to drive that far but finally gave in. Now, I drive there four times a week from Pawleys for swimming.

Is there a need for better swim lessons on Pawley's Island? I'm curious because I taught swim lessons for years and am thinking of teaching private lessons...if there is a place I could teach (at home pools, or community pools if allowed). LMK if you think there's a need for this.

(And what is "Pepper Geddings"?
