There is a very real possibility that we will be moving to the Myrtle Beach/Surfside Beach area within the next year. As I look at homes on Realtor.com and Trulia.com, none have natural gas. I did a search that indicated that Sago Plantation was a natural gas community, but the homes that I saw online had electric. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Not single family homes (townhouses only), but Parmelee in Murrells Inlet appears to offer gas.

Thanks. That kitchen looks almost like mine. I don't know anything about D. R. Horton but will be checking them out. We would only be interested in a single-family home.

There are communities (mostly newer and not too many in Surfside area) that have natural gas. Windsor Plantation on Rt 544 in Surfside has natural gas. Summerall Oaks in Murrells Inlet is also a gas community. Sago does have gas but it's a ways from Surfside. Tuscany, which is near Sago, also has gas. These are the ones that I'm aware of but a good real estate agent can point you in the right direction when you're ready to make the move.

However, for the most part, gas is used for the kitchen stove and maybe a fireplace. It would be very unusual to find a house in this area with a furnace to heat and cool the home with gas unless it was a custom build. Every production builder like DR Horton uses heat pumps for heating and a/c for houses.

No wonder we could not find homes with gas stoves in the kitchen. Darn it - I hate cooking on an electric stove!

I have thought of it, but I understand that more new housing communities have natural gas and that is my preference.

I also very much dislike electric, especially for cooking. Where I live in SSB, there is no option for natural gas, so we installed propane. It's not the same, but still better than electric as far as I'm concerned. We also put in a tankless hot water heater, which we love. Never run out of hot water no matter what!
