For those who have asked about gas heat...I've visited many of these gas communities and they all rely on electric heat pumps. To get a furnace, you're probably going to have to build a custom house in a gas community and since many of the gas communities are developed by tract builders, you'll have to search hard for a gas community with custom houses. Since Dunes is mostly custom, you could probably get a furnace there but don't be surprised if the builder tries to talk you into a heat pump. :-)

Thanks for the information. I guess it is harder to put in a gas furnace when you don't have a basement.

We want gas too, and after looking have come to the conclusion we will put in a propane tank to have a gas fireplace and a gas stove. Not too concerned about the heat pump. They have come a long way sinc we had one some 25 years ago.
Hi, I know this thread is a little old, but Emmens Preserve in the Market Commons section does have natural gas & they are built w/a 90% AFUE gas furnace. They also have natural gas fireplaces. We looked there last year & they had an electric range, but included a gas hookup for a gas stove. (Which I complained then, they didn't offer a gas stove upgrade, you had to take the house w/the electric range then buy a stove on your own!!) They also have a natural gas line outside for a grill. It is located about 1.5 miles from the beach.
I have been in contact w/them over the past year & now they offer an option for a gas stove instead of the electric range, which I like! The builder is Lennar & they have a few other n. gas communities, one in Murrells Inlet (a little too far from the beach for me).
I also have recently found OceanWalk (was going to be called Bermuda Gardens, but D.H. Horton bought them out), which is also right down the street (17) from Market Commons, but it is in Surfside. That community is only about a 1/4 mile from the beach (which makes me a lil nervous about flooding, even though it is outside the "flood zones".) They also are a natural gas community. We are going to visit Emmens (again) & OceanWalk on our next visit in a few weeks.
Anyone who lives there have any comments or thoughts about either of those communities??
I know this thread is a little forgotten, but Berkshire Forest is a natural gas community. We just moved here and are building there. It's not far from costco, you can build a fence (although not privacy), and get your gas range
We went to Oceanwalk and although the homes are nice, we didn't like the location. It was right off the 17 with no neighboring communities. But we're a young family so that's why it didn't fit our needs.
I am purchasing a home in Summerlyn that has natural gas for heating and cooking. It's in the Carolina forest area off Carolina forest blvd. in myrtle beach. The builder is Benchmark. It's right across the street from the new library and rec center.

Will you have a gas, forced-air furnace? If so, where is the builder putting it? I would love to have gas heat available, as I don't feel warm enough with a heat pump.
