I saw a very nice condo for rent in the Deerfield Plantation Resort in Surfside. Does anyone know anything about this resort? I see the golf course is gone but I'm not there to golf, just a month of sun. Is it a safe area and is it kept up ? Thanks for any opinions, do not want to be unhappy with my housing during a month vacation !!

We looked at renting a house in Deerfield when we first moved here, but it didn't work out. During our time there, we heard that there were issues with the condos but I can't verify that personally. I would, however, be careful and hopefully someone else on this forum has first hand experience.

We were there in 2012 and spoke with a Horry County police man. He indicated that the condos had issues, just as CTYankee said. I also don't know what it was, but some of the people we saw hanging around looked unkempt.

Now, I don't always dress well when I take out the trash, but I would not have worn what one woman had on whom we saw!

Is Deerfield a nice place to live? I’m buying a condo there.

Based on reputation and what I read in the paper, my advice would be to get out of your contract. It's not a place I'd want to live. The houses are in a good area but the condo's have a bad reputation.

Thanks for your response. I’d like to know what kind of complaints people have about the living there? Bad reputation for what kinds of things?

I wouldn't move there. Its old, the old golf course is creepy and the houses are run down. They are doing some new builds in there and that will help but overall, I wouldn't do it. There is more crime in there than other areas. Personally a big no for me

I think it would be a good investment but only if you can wait it out.

It's been on the decline for many years but eventually it will bounce back. The location is too good for it to stay depressed.
