I am considering moving down from Fredericksburg VA. I have no children and love a laid back lifestyle and have a job opportunity for my wife in florence and one job in conway. I am looking to spend about $200k on a home and prefer a nice side yard without any neighbors close. I am trying to stat away from the places where there are nice homes mixed in with trailors out in the country areas.

I myself will have to look for a job once we move down. Which town would you recommend and why. I love the south, I am just not familiar with areas in SC. Thanks so much for any advice (please help) A

PS - is a perk to living in Conway is that it is closer to Myrtle Beach or is this area to busy/too many tourists to visit frequently?

I moved to Conway from NJ and have been through Florence. IMO, Florence is too far from everything (for me) where Conway has a lot of quiet areas but still close to everything. You can easily find a house in this area for $200,000 with a nice size yard. We bought a 2000 sq ft home on 1.3 acres for $194,000. The airport, beach, shopping etc... is all within 20/30 minutes. I didn't find a lot of tourist coming to Conway during the summer, only on Sundays there's a lot of traffic on the hwy out of here, leading to 95.

I also believe Conway would be a better choice than Florence. The current job market and future job outlook is much better in the Conway/Myrtle Beach area than in the Florence/Pee Dee region.

Once you have lived in the Myrtle Beach area for a couple of months, you will learn the back roads which avoid the tourist traffic. There is also a greater variety of restaurants and entertainment choices.

The only positive for Florence is that it's an hour closer to the mountains and Atlanta Braves baseball games.

Magnum have you moved already?
If not, I would say GO TO CONWAY!!!
I live in Florence and I'm from Myrtle Beach. Florence is in a good location in terms of driving times from places... but does that really matter when you're living and working somewhere all the time?
Florence is trafficky, too, more so than you think. It's the biggest city in the Pee Dee region but that doesn't say much because it gets smaller and smaller the longer you're here. I've only been here for about 2 months. When my lease ends I'll be in Conway, too.

I only moved to Florence because it's closer to my grad school program, which is IN florence at FMU. Don't make the same mistake I did!!

I'd choose Conway. The proximity to Myrtle Beach, which is experiencing robust population and job growth right now, is definitely a plus.
