Currently making $60,000 and paying $1400 in monthly rent. Made an offer to make $63,000 from a different company in Minneapolis. What are your thoughts? Love the weather here in San Diego which is why I’m hesitant to accept. And a reason why I’m considering to accept is Minneapolis has a lower cost of living compared to San Diego.

Yes and I’ve done quite a few. $63,000 in Minneapolis is equal to $81,000 in San Diego.

That is mostly because our summers are much better. No joke.

Is it $1400 per month for a single or do you have roommates? Do you have a vehicle or plan to use public transportation?

Here are the brackets for taxes
https://www.revenue.state.mn.us/minn...s-and-brackets

You can also earn a renters credit with your income.

Minnesota doesn't collect sales tax on purchases of most prescription drugs, clothing and groceries. Prepared Food is subject to special sales tax rates under Minnesota law.

The biggest question is can you handle the season and more specifically the winter. Some here will claim the winter is 6 months but I tend to see it as 3 in the metro. I like the winter so that is a feature for me not an problem. Even if you don't move here, make sure you try out the BWCA-best place on earth.

$1400 for a 1 bedroom apartment in San Diego and I would plan on using my car. Thanks for the reply.

Also, for renters insurance is it $62,340 after taxes or before taxes to qualify?

I think you mean the MN property tax credit for renters and it’s gross household income.

M1PR is calculated based on your adjusted gross income.

Since you plan on using your car, it gives you more flexibility to find an apartment for less. You will have to calculate how far you are willing to drive for less expensive rent vs. time saved. I am guessing you are young and without a family, so I would be willing to have a longer commute for extra savings. Though, as a I get older, I would value my time over money.

Padmapper is a useful tool for apartment hunting.

Thanks and yes I’m single with no kids. I’m surprised how expensive 1 bedroom apartments are. It’s like every apartment with garage parking is at least $1000 in Minneapolis and surrounding suburbs. I wonder if high taxes are a cause of this.
