I went to SCSU in the mid 90s and campus security and cops would usually put the kibosh on any house parties, and the city council passed ordinances stopping bars from offering a lot of their drink specials. I partied way harder at the little college I went to in the middle of Iowa. SCSU was usually dead on the weekends - most people would go down to MSP to party.

If you have a family.... St. Cloud public schools have gone downhill over recent years.

"Most people would go down to MSP to party" is a giant generalization. Being close to a decently sized metro area, many (notice how I didn't generalize) would probably head home for a nice cooked meal, to see friends/family and wash laundry. St. Cloud is known as a "suitcase" college. Colleges that are more isolated tend to create more of a college-town feel.

Apparently there's even 1 less reason to stick around on the weekends in the fall. St. Cloud State has just dropped their football program after years of beating it up by the dean and his cronies.

I'm not surprised. No one cared about football when I was going there 20+ years ago. There would be no one at the games. I remember one homecoming weekend Smashmouth or some other crappy (but still fairly popular) 90s band played after the football game and there was literally more people in the band and roadies than were in the stands.

Take your condescending attitude somewhere else, thanks. I actually went there and was addressing the comment above my post asking if

Is St Cloud still a party town?

I remember back in the 80s there were parties all the time, and I heard SCSU still has a bad reputation as a party school.

Most people who wanted to party would rather go to MSP than hang around at keg parties in basements or sub-par bars.

Is that general enough for you, chief?

I'm still a relative newcomer to the state, a big sports fan and I have to admit I wasn't even aware SCSU had a football program. Hockey, yes....obviously.
