NO snow on the surface except in small patches. Some one had those sleds with a windsail on them mounted on metal runners. They reached speeds up to about 50 miles per hour.

The bottom of the lake was visible through the several inches of ice, even down to 30 or so feet depth. Others would take their fat bikes out there and ride from Brighton Beach clear down to Canal Park on the lake.

People were out walking all over the place out there. Of these people, a father and son and daughter were walking out about 100 yards from shore about half way down Park Point, they were in about 10 feet of water depth, looking for a place to fish from. The young son looked down at the bottom of the lake through the ice and saw a forgotten ship wreck on the bottom.

Of course that was a huge discovery, sparking hundreds of people to go to the place of the ship wreck location.

That was awesome.

I couldn't do it. Even though I've been in the state my whole life something about that just wouldn't jive with me.

When you go out for a hike, the trails are almost deserted. It's a good time to take the dog for a walk.

It's too cold for my husband to go grocery shopping again and buy a bunch of junk we don't need and has to eat what we have in freezer and not be wasteful.

Anything else this cold weather is good for?
It gives you and excuse to stay in.

I really like the winter scenary and the freezing over of the lakes and rivers.

I took my niece ice skating yesterday at one of the local parks. The ice was great quality.

It feels appropriately cold for Minnesota. I actually enjoy wintertime.
Same here. I love winter in MN. Also, it's not like it's the entire season below zero. It happens a few times then it warms up again then another drop then another warm up. I like it cold. Keeps the lakes nice and frozen and keeps it from being muddy and slushy all season. Also to me it doesn't feel unbearably cold until around -10. Right around zero feels pretty nice when it's sunny and not windy.

Maybe but when do you think there's more crime? On a 70 degree summer night or a -15 degree winter night? Minnesota isn't permanently cold just for a few months. We still have warm summers and so does Alaska believe it or not. It still is a lot safer here than down South. The worst parts of Minneapolis don't hold a candle wick to the bad parts of Dallas or Miami.

My favorite part of the cold weather is when I have to run some morning errands and don't feel like taking time to get dressed and comb my hair.

You just put on a long puffer coat with a hood and some knee-high boots over your pajamas. Voila! Nobody knows!

I also kinda like it when DH comes in from blowing snow with icicles hanging off his mustache. LOL.

When the temperature gets to a balmy 45 it feels like a heat wave, time to dust off the motorcycle and go for a spin.

I saw one going down the road today, they were at least wearing winter gear and not shorts!! Today's temperature is 45 degrees.

I've never been but I know it's a big deal to some Minnesotans whenever the Apostle Island ice caves are available for viewing on Lake Superior.

Here's a peek for you: https://www.lakesuperior.com/travel/...nal-lakeshore/

Speaking of donorcycles and road danger - my dad's parent's came from Norway where one hobby they enjoyed was skiing behind a horse - skijoring. Dad, not having a horse, used to take my little friends and me out and pull our sleds behind the car. Was that ever fun!

I sometimes think Mom mustn't have had a clue or she would have given him good what-for. No parent in their right mind would do that today. Things have really changed.
