I am planning to relocate to one of thewe two cities. I am a single parent with 3 school aged kids. I'm looking for a safe, child oriented community that is affordable and offers good health care options and lots of support and activities for kids. Great schools, of course, and a liberal outlook (I'm comming from Az, so I imagine anything in Mn is going to look liberal!). I'd like a small town feel...in otherwords, I'm looking for paradise!

I started a Rochester Vs Duluth thread about 2 weeks ago. It failed. But there are maybe 1 or 2 good posts in that thread.

Hmm.. A city of 100,000 and a city of 85,000 and only 10 people respond. Let that be a little foreshadowing for where you'll be moving. Unresponsive passive people. You're better off moving to the Twin Cities.

Lol, Just because only around 10 people responded doesn't mean everybody in both rochester and duluth are unresponsive and passive.

I wouldn't recommend the Twin Cities to someone who has kids and is looking for a "small-town" feel.

I think Duluth is the much more interesting city, but Rochester has a better economy. Rochester just feels boring and nondescript to me. Farms, no (real) lakes in the entire county, newer construction.

Maybe Winona? It's only 35 miles from Rochester and has everything you want, plus awesome scenery.

Twin Cities would be better the suburbs are very safe but between Duluth and Rochester your better off going to Rochester. You'll know why when you check the weather for Duluth in December

I agree. Duluth's weather is terrible. It's really the Seattle of the midwest. FOG FOG FOG in the summer than SNOW SNOW SNOW and COLDNESS in the winter. The lake does Duluth wonders.

This pretty much describes Michigan weather as well. Only switch "fog" with "rain."
