Major misconception...

Duluth's winters aren't what gets to people.

I grew up in the Twin Cities. Lived in St. Cloud for 4 years and have lived in Duluth for 2 now. The 'Cold' isn't anything I didn't experience in Minnesota growing up as a kid. Heck, what's the big difference between -8 in MPLS and -13 in Duluth? Not much at that point... The lake actually keeps Duluth warmer in the winter, believe it or not.

It's the months of October, November, April, May and June that are difference makers. Spring starts in the Twin Cities about 3 weeks before Duluth and fall starts about 3 weeks before the Twin Cities...

To whoever said "Snow, Snow, Snow" is kind of weird too. This winter there was more snow in the Twin Cities than up here...

It does get foggy sometimes, but that's due to the lake

Thanks for all the input...I'm kinda leaning towards Rochester. I'm not afraid of winter, but I realize that once you leave Duluth, there is nothing but small towns for a hundred miles in any direction. At least in Rochester there are small towns and urban areas coexisiting fairly close by, so it's not so isolating..I like the idea of Winona, too. Thanks, everyone

If you check out Winona, make sure you check it all out. First time we were there, we only went to a small part of it and I thought it was so depressing. Went back another time and saw more. it's a nice looking town.

I don't think I have been to Winona before and I looked it up and it looks like a beautiful town.

File:Winona.jpg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I found this really nice picture on just Wikipedia
It definitely has a great location.

I don't think they'd put pictures of the not-so-beautiful areas of any town on Wikipedia though.

Duluth is way prettier, plus Duluth has beaches and hiking trails all within in a 5 minute drive. Rochester has............................................... .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. IBM?.............................................. .................................................. ..A hospital?.....................................And. .................................................. ....Corn?

Rochester has the river, plenty of biking and hiking trails, 100+ city parks that are well-kept, lakes (and let's not compare the world's largest fresh water lake to other lakes please - we know the difference), beaches, plenty of its own beauty. I could go on but there's not much point in comparing the beauty of the two cities when they are so vastly different in that regard.

Oh and Rochester actually has 3 hospitals plus the federal prison medical center.

There are no lakes in Olmstead County, where Rochester is. No lakes. None.

True for the most part

But some cities they do, Like Camden, NJ. Though Camden is known to be a terrible place full of poverty and urban decay.

One-third of the population of Rochester works at Mayo, which is VERY
hard to get on with! Not sure what the economy is like in Duluth but it
has to be more diverse than Rochester! And I know Duluth is a prettier
area with more outdoor types of things to do. Good luck!
