I’m done with Ramsey county. I’m actively searching to move into Anoka county. I’m open to Lino Lakes, Lexington, Blaine, Coon Rapids, Anoka, and Ramsey. Had lunch last weekend in downtown Anoka…really enjoyed being able to walk the Main Street of downtown without having to deal with “street level social issues”.
People I have spoken with have all had positive remarks about the town. The city just passed a law banning sidewalk calk art, and there were quite a few comments under the article calling Anoka the meth capital of the world. I have heard that about East Bethel(Methel), and was surprised to see those comments.
I’m looking for pros/cons of the town.

I had to do some work several years ago in downtown Anoka, and I thought that it was a nice, walkable area. I can understand your desire to get out of Ramsey County; I am beginning to feel the same way.

You also might want to research Centerville (Anoka Co) and Hugo (Washington Co) as they are not in Ramsey Co, but still close enough to downtown St. Paul for those occasional trips.

-Interesting you don't consider *this* a red flag that something might be just a little "off" there

That is unless you hate children, creative expression, and prefer your municipal govt to have a fascist vibe....

Thanks for your input! I’ve been thinking about Centerville too. Hugo may be just a tad too far for my commute to work.

Call down Camden, no one’s taking the sidewalk chalk out of the hands of children. If you did some research before this emotionally reactive post, you would realize it is actually a ban on unauthorized flags, artwork, sign, or similar objects on city property.
I, personally, find it refreshing to see a city trying to preserve its integrity.

What about Stillwater, it’s in Washington County, Hudson also…my brother works in the cities, but has lived in WI for last 22+ years. He must like WI a lot better since his drive has been at least 35 miles each way during the homes he’s had. He can afford to live in any city here also.

We love Anoka, that is a beautiful area with an excellent city center.......but the issues with Ramsey and Hennepin have already bled into the surrounding counties, including Anoka, and will continue to do so. My advice? If you're going to run, run a good distance farther or risk finding yourself in the same boat all too soon.

Why not 50th/France? It's not Ramsey County and it's certainly more upscale than Anoka.

Would you mind elaborating on what these issues are that have “bled” into the surrounding counties?

Yes I would mind. You know GD well what I’m talking about and so does everyone else. You think OP is fleeing Ramsey because the Friday night senior bingo games are getting too rowdy?

Because Edina is in Hennepin County, which could possibly be the only worse county in MN after Ramsey County. Also, it's very expensive.

This stuff is happening everywhere. My sister lives in Chicago and the suburbs there are getting hit by a huge wave of overflow crime from the city. Even the very far suburbs outside of Cook (Chicago-area) county are no longer safe over there.
