Since the riots I saw a news article about a manufacturing company, whom has been doing business in the city since 1987, is going to leave the city as a result of the damange done. I've taken a cursory glance at news articles that mentioned how business owners are facing issues with insurance on rebuilding. So I'm getting worried. I just wonder if this city is going to recover from this major tragedy. I love this city and I would hate to see it forever tarnished. Please let's have a mature discussion. Don't be mean and nasty.

Target and UnitedHealth have donated $10 million each to help the businesses impacted and to help rebuild the city. I’ve read that U.S. Bank has made a similar pledge. I have seen lots of residents stepping up to help with the clean-up. I’m inspired by the local response and hopeful that recent events will bring meaningful change and a new and improved Lake Street corridor that is even more vibrant than before.

And me personally? Prior to the pandemic I had been trying to convince my family to re-locate for years but honestly I’m probably more inclined to stay now than I was before. It’s a good city and I wouldn’t feel right about abandoning it right after it got punched in the gut.

No. Have you forgotten about Waco? Or the Rodney King riots? I'm afraid that this is going to be the Twin Cities' cross to bear for a very, very long time - likely longer than most of us will live.

A century from now? Sure, it will be largely forgotten. But that doesn't matter as far as those of us posting here are concerned.

Check the history of Detroit and its riots. Look at them now. There's your answer.

$100 million from each of F500 in the cities is not enough to recover. Residents stepping up because they have nowhere to and won't be able to sell their houses anytime soon. As soon as they can they will run to suburbs or out of MN in general.

Nope and democrats are to blame. They have been in power there for a long time at all levels, and the voters have gotten what they asked for.

Nope. Minneapolis is destined to decline for atleast a few decades.
Population growth is slowing down as is.

I am originally from Detroit, having grown up and started my family and career there.

The problems in Detroit pre-dated the 1967 riots and went far beyond racial tensions. The collapse of the auto industry in a city that was inadequately diversified in its economic base had far more to do with what happened there than the summer of 1967.

This really is not a valid comparison and I am tired of people who know nothing about either city trotting it out.

I think Minneapolis will recover but it will just take some time, and when it does recover it will be a better city than it was before the events of the last few weeks. I doubt people will give up on Minneapolis the way they gave up on Detroit.
