How big is the Asian-American community in the Twin Cities area?
Any Hawaiian (folks from Hawaii, not actually Hawaiian blood) communities?

We have a large and diverse Asian community here; it's just hard to say who and what types for someone who isn't part of it.

We have a lot of Hmongs, a fair number of Tibetans, Thais, and smaller numbers of Koreans, Chinese and Japanese. There are some Pacific Islanders too; I know that because a co-worker was taking hula and Tahitian dance lessons at some sort of a (?Micronesian/Polynesian?) community center for a while; and she was learning some "real" dances with Tahitians and Polynesians.

But I don't see that co-worker anymore and I don't know much about that whole part of the Twin Cities ethnic mix; so I can't help more than that.

There is quite a large group of Asian-American's. Their are many groups to mingle with. We also have an AA Theatre, Mu. There is a large Hmong community in St Paul, too. It depends on what group, you are looking for. There are Hawaiian's here but most came in the late 50's and 60's to go to school.

The Twin Cities has a large "Asian community" (12.36% Asian in St. Paul and 5.8% in Minneapolis). The most visible Asian ethnic group in the Twin Cities is not Chinese or Korean as in most American cities, but Hmong. St. Paul has, I believe, the largest Hmong population in the U.S. (maybe second).

I know of a couple of people who lived or grew up in Hawaii, but I don't believe there is a specific area that is considered Hawaiian ex pats.

Both Mpls and St. Paul have large Hispanic populations with St. Paul having a very large Hmong community in the Midway/Frogtown area.

Default Why would it matter?

Someone from Japan would have little in common with someone from Laos. Asians are so varied. Just because someone came as a refugee 10 years ago from a Hill Tribe would not link other Asians to them. ?????

Yes, I think that Wausau, Wisconsin has a sizeable Hmong population as well.

I find this an interesting response coming from you, Dingler.

Nothing personal, but I can't help but wonder if this holds true for Americans living in Va and Americans living in MN too?

It might be more accurate if applied to Native Americans in Alaska versus Mexican folks in Mexico City. Both groups are North Americans, but have very little in common. :-)
