There is a part of Homestead that has some new development and looks pretty decent but the whole area as a whole is far from being considered good!

That location is very far from anything desirable (attractions, things to do,see) and other than a Cracker Barrel, Outlet shops and a Super Wal-mart you got pretty much nothing. Yeah, it's up and coming and has some restaurants and a hospital but I wouldn't recommend that area to anyone as it's very poor and still under development.

You're close-ish to the keys, if you're into that (i.e., have a boat, like to fish, scuba dive, etc.). But you're right, Homestead is culturally desolate, and there's not a lot to do around there.

It depends where you are. Homestead was a combination of agriculture and military families. That changed when drug money flooded the area in the 1980's. Now agriculture has been replaced by development while the military base was scaled back. Mexican laborers are the main feature of the town of Homestead and it is surrounded by low-quality crammed in housing with no room to grow. Florida city is a step below and dominated by low-income welfare residents of darker shades. Crime is high almost everywhere. That being said there is a simple rule to find the good parts of homestead-florida city. Just look for space! The bigger the lots, the better the neighborhood. The new townhomes and zero lot line homes are tomorrow's slums but the house on 1 or more acres is in good company. Crime is still an issue, though.

If you have a choice find a better area. Way too much crime.

We lived in Homestead for 4+ years in Keys Gate. Very nice area. But would not recomend any place west of the Turnpike. And the schools are the worst. But if You like being near the Keys it rocks.

Florida City - Imagine a place that epitomizes negative statistics involving African Americans.

Homestead - Imagine a country town of 30,000 with just as many illegals. A small bed community that attracts the poorest suburbanites and day laborers, but is also home to vast ranches and country estates. It also has a NASCAR 'motor speedway' that is used everyso often...
