Miami Beach is 'breaking up' with spring breakers
In a social media ad campaign, Miami Beach, Florida, said it would be implementing new rules ahead of the popular time of year for visitors.

The video ad shows a number of people, who appear to be locals, “breaking up” with spring breakers. It calls out visitors who “want to get drunk in public and ignore laws” rather than enjoy the city’s culture. It also shows clips of the chaos from last spring break and calls the incidents “our breaking point” with spring break.

Miami Beach officials said the city would implement curfews, bag checks, restricted beach access, DUI checkpoints and expensive parking fees. It also said it would increase law enforcement.

About time to be honest, I think we were all fed-up with this and Memorial Weekend b.s as well.

It's good news for us.

It was bound to happen. Daytona, PCB, lots of places had to crack down on these kinds of people.

There will be SOME loss of revenue for the city, but I think most are ok with that at this point.

I hate Spring Breakers.

Don’t travel in March in FL, they are everywhere.

I’m in Punta Cana in Dominican Republic, even on the way the plane here was packed with kids on Spring Break.

I was in Miami Beach for 3 weeks in Feb, I’m not sure if it was the boat show but it took us 35 mins to go from Lincoln Ave in South Beach to Bal Harbour, 6,7 miles, on Monday at 10. And a lot of what I called Spirit airline demographics roaming around and it wasn’t even Spring Break yet.

I am tempted to comment, but do not have as much latitude as you do on the same subject, but in a different section of the forum;

I was in Miami Beach the last couple days of February and the first couple of days of March. The traffic on Friday, March 1st in and out of Miami Beach on Friday was horrendous which I assume was connected to the spring break issue. Also parking garages were charging $100 an hour as some friends elected to pick up my party (not spring-breakers) for lunch and take us outside of the South Beach/Miami Beach area.

Great move by Miami. I’ve seen phtotos and videos from past years and it looked worse than a war zone.

How will this affect the local economy and the local revenue is the question? I can understand the safety issues and there needs to be more emphasis towards the safety of both the residents and the tourists.
