KW has changed a lot since my parents and godparents use to all go down for a weekend of fishing and relaxation. It was not a big spot for the alphabet people yet, but was growing. As a result we stayed further up in the Key's where the fishing was abundant and the prices lower than in Key West.
I still have my Sloppy Joe's insulated cups where you get 1/4 more drink than a standard serving.

As to the stickers, yes, the OP is correct as they are certainly worse to the point they stick out more than ever.
Sadly, I was just in Europe and once clean and beautiful cities have actual graffiti all over the place. It is like society is devolving in all bigger cities and is likely affecting tourism.
Seattle, LA, Austin, etc. all seem to be overwhelmed with crime, homeless, graffiti, etc. and the city councils/mayors either don't have the willingness or desire to clean them back up. Obviously, a city does not want to lose regular return tourists like the OP, who said they have been going to KW for close to 50 years.
