The demographics have changed, and the submarine base is gone, but Key West has not evolved into a "dump".

That I agree with you..Still a quaint place to visit and enjoy. We here in SW Miami love all the Keys and every opportunity we have to travel down there all the way to M.M 0, we take it in a stride

Hi, I'm bringing back my old thread on Key West stickers. We went back recently and found a very pleasant surprise. Key West is cleaning up the stickers!! I, for one, am grateful. It was beginning to look trashy. Sure, there are still some areas that have many stickers but you can certainly tell it's being cleaned up. Hooray, Key West!

Just to make your head explode, a picture from when we were there in October. Jimmy Buffet's recording studio.

Yup, that wall on the wharf is still covered but it appears to be one of the few places that still need to be cleaned up. I mean, you can still see the stickers in and around Key West everywhere but it is clear to see they are making huge strides in cleaning it up. The trash cans, light poles, bike racks and store fronts along Duval Street have all been cleaned up.

And where did Jimmy Buffett choose to live? In Sag Harbor, an immaculate village with nary a sticker in sight.
