roark i agree with you about the whining.
I have no problem with people saying negative things about south florida. I am getting very sick of the few people who know how to use the "free speech/opinion" rules to infest every thread with some type of negative energy because they are miserable in life. It almost seems like "i am miserable so i will make you miserable". Frankly, i am getting close to leaving the florida forum, it is not fun to have my positive posts attacked by the same people solely for the purpose of aggravating people. These people are not interested in offering good/bad opinions, but in trolling and upsetting people. I have them on ignore but other posters quote them and reply to them so it is hard to totally ignore them. I made a nice post called "a beautiful full moon night in florida" where i described the hearing the lovely sounds of the crickets and as usual, the regular negative poster replied "i only heard gunshots". Another post about air conditioning where i mentioned someone stole freon out of my AC and fried it got a response from the same regular basher of "AC is for sissies...you must live in a desperate area if your freon is being stolen" (i live in a luxury condo in port orange, a very beautiful, clean beachside city with one of the lowest crime rates in florida)

No matter what i post, this miserable person has to infest every thread with negative energy.
As long as city-data lets people terrorize people with an average of 7 negative posts per day, this forum is not worthwhile. I have seen many other people say they are leaving for the very same reason.
Let them be miserable, they would be miserable if they had a million dollars.

You need to step out of your "luxury condo" in Port Orange and take a ride around here. For every cricket you hear in your "luxury condo" there are 10 people in Dade and Broward who DO hear gunshots. I dont know why you let the ramblings of one individual have any impact on you but, seriously, step out of the gated community and drive through Miami on that beautiful full moon night. You can have positive opinions, others can have negative ones. This forums is for all opinions.

fine, you choose to live in gangland, i chose to live in a crime-free area.
So an opinion is "'calling me a sissie for having AC and saying i live in a desperate area?" that is opinion? No, that is trolling.I see past the opinions and see much deeper issues. Also, the same person posted a pic of hurricane andrew and said "i hope one of these hits south florida so people will leave". Is that a "helpful" opinion? No it is the ramblings of a very sick mind. I guess free speech even protects sickos. Weston, i remember your post hoping for a drought "cause you are tired of mowing your yard" LOL
I am finished with this forum anyway, it is a bunch of miserable south florida people. Everyone cheers when their house doubles in price, but when taxes go up they cry like babies. I pray for you.

Easy guys. Keep it to a MIAMI subject that can be discussed. Stop arguing because you don't agree with the others opinions or this will end up just another deleted/shut down Miami thread.
Yes, I was talking to all of you, not just one.
Thank you.

I don't think gunshots are an issue in the Pines and the surrounding communities around here. And the entire half of the county. My friend lives in Hollywood, in a 775 a month apartment west of U.S.1, and he doesn't even have any problems. Maybe 1 in 15 are waking up to gunshots here (Sistrunk, Broward Blvd/Fort Lauderdale ghettos, east Miramar,Pompano pockets of Hollywood that are cleaning up). Thats a very small shrivel of the county to be as dangerous as an "average" neighborhood in Dade County. I remember when I used to hear about Hollywood (Fl, heh heh) on the news everyday, now not so much anymore. Come on, Coral Springs is the 10th safest city in the county for crying out loud and Weston is in CD double digits and has not had a murder in years (for a city of 70k).

You know what, let me compile a list, CD Average-330.7

*Indicates city in 100 safest list by Morgan Quitno.**Indicates Moneys 100 best places to live

Cities With CD Crime index BELOW Natl. Average (below 300) in Broward
1.Parkland (109.6)
2.Coconut Creek*(187.3)
3.Coral Springs*,** (140.3) 10th safest.
4.Margate (177.0)
5.Lighthouse Point (160.2)
6.Hillsboro Beach (90.5)
7.Tamarac *(185.5)
8.Sunrise*(280.5)
9.Plantation* (279.2)
10.Weston (102.9)
11.Davie* (280.9)
12.Cooper City(170.0)
13.Pembroke Pines * **(211.3)

Cities With CD Crime NEAR Natl. Average (300-400)
North Lauderdale (390.6) Remember, that city is considered a gehtto
Hollywood (383.3)
Miramar** (301.7) Almost on the safe list

Cities with CD Crime ABOVE Natl Avg
1.Deerfield Beach(418.8)
2.Pompano Beach (687.5, crime nearly doubled over past 2 years after hitting a low in 2003, would not want to be there at night)
3.Oakland Park (723.9)
4.Wilton Manors (403.8)
5.Fort Lauderdale (600.8)
6.Lauderdale Lakes (580.6)
7.Lauderhill (434.4)
8.Pembroke Park(703.1)
9.Hallandale Beach (447.3)

Notice that the bad areas were clustered in the east half of the county and that 4 of them are small municpalities (Oakland Park, Wilton Manors, Pembroke Park, Lauderdale Lakes)

Cities in the top 25 most dangerous list in Broward County as of 2006
None

More municipalities had a crime index under 300 than a crime index over 400, and they were all clustered onto the eastern half. I guess not everyone is waking up to gunshots.

Weston in the pines, arent you moving to Melbourne?

Thats like moving east of the turnpike.

Nice list! I didn't see Dania Beach on the list, but I'm sure its pretty bad. I just drove through there last night at about 2am with my gf and she's like: "Is this a bad area?" noting all the people just standing around on the corners and by closed stores etc.

What is it with bad neighborhoods and people just "chillin'" out on the street 24-7?

Dania beach has no statistics. I am sure it would of been on the dangerous list. Its in the same cluster as all of the other bad cities. Definitely an area I would avoid, but the vast majority of Broward County is quite safe, even a lot of non "rich" neighborhoods (Tamarac, Sunrise, some working class enclaves of Hollywood, Margate, etc). Actually, after years of poor a law enforcement department in Hollywood, they finally have their act together, and they are doing a good job of cleaning up the city. The school system needs a lot of cleaning up in those areas though, without question...it needs a lot of cleaning up in areas like Plantation, too.

About chillin on the streets, well, they have nothing better to do but be on the streets in a "Bad neighborhood". It's a lack of better influence.

Sorry to burst your bubble of naiveté, but those people earning $10/hr are necessary for you to continue living your luxurious lifestyle. There has to be people who are willing to do the jobs that people like you wouldn't touch (and probably wouldn't be able to survive anyway). What are you going to do when all the valets, servers, dry cleaners, etc. leave because they can't afford the cost of living in your "prime real estate". Newsflash: it's already happening. I read an article not too long ago (sorry, I can't find it now) about how hotels on Miami Beach are having to hire temporary workers from other countries and actually put them up (on their own dime) while working in Miami because of a major shortage of blue collar workers (EDIT: Just found the article Staff shortage leads to imported labor in Florida - Whose America? - MSNBC.com). So I guess you are getting what you wish for - but what is an elitist society going to be like with no one to "serve" the "nouveau riche"? What would happen if everyone was a luxury property realtor or a stock broker? Who would detail your Lexus for you and clean your McMansion for you??

Sorry, I am not one to support whining, but I despise conceit and ignorance even moreso. Not to mention, your posts in this thread happen to sound like whining to me, just on a different level.

So basically you think that a bunch of rich people moving in will get rid of all the problems here? Btw, who will make your dinner and clear your table, dry clean your clothes, wash your car, vacuum your posh real estate office and take out the trash? Do you pay more than $10/hour for those things? And suppose they all had college degrees, but still performed the same tasks because that's all that was available, are they still lazy and undriven?

Miami's economy, quite frankly, sucks. I like it here, but I made the decision long ago that location was worth the severely sub-par wages of the area.

Why do you think that the people of Miami need to be replaced by the "nouveau riche" from other areas? I'll tell you why. Because that's where all the real money is made... other areas!
