"I know hundreds (thousands?) of people who do that now" was the sentence. Who would think that means he knows them personally? Is it required to say "I know that hundreds...."? No. No it is not.

I would not look for an apology. When people are wrong they rarely admit it on an anonymous message board.

I have lived in in the Boston area and DC area. Housing costs are very similar in cost for both. I'd recommend Frederick or Martinsburg. They have transportation options for you.
