I took my family there for a few days and it felt like a different world. So pristine and so tranquil. People enjoying activities from swimming to fishing to jet skiing and speed boating, of course. The surrounding mountains were as lush and green as can be.

It was nice to be in a place that felt like a haven from the problems of the world.

Oh dang. I thought the title was a joke, but good on you for finding your paradise.

Personally, re: lakes, I like the Finger Lakes region better. Probably because I'm not really into jet skiing or fishing, so the Finger Lakes offering lots of vineyards and farm breweries - along with Ithaca/Cornell for a day - is a more enjoyable combo of activities for me.

It's a pretty spot with a good mix of programming and "find your own adventure" type spaces. I would rather be about 30 miles west than in Cumberland today.......it is hot!

I loved visiting the Finger Lakes and Ithaca too, FWIW.

I really like Deep Creek, just so much to do regardless of the season. A bit too many power boats for me but the lake has so many arms and coves that you can duck into for escape. Oddly enough we took a trip to the Finger Lakes and got kind of bored, i was expecting bigger mountains nearby.

The Deep Creek Lake area, and Garrett County in general, is a nice place to spend some time. I particularly like Harrington Manor State Park (which my father helped to build when he was in the CCC at Swallow Falls).

But I don't think I'd go quite so far as to describe it as "a veritable paradise".

Deep Creek.

Too many trees, too many wild animals, not enough Starbuck's and Chipotles. Time to do some clear cutting and get more condos and upscale and exclusive townhouses built. Why should the people who live there be the only ones to enjoy it? They don't deserve to live in such a nice place.

Oh, this is how the things in my previous post begin. Been there, done that and am ashamed of my part in it. If I could redo the last 35 years I would.

I generally don't consider any reservoir to be pristine, natural or paradisaical.
