I'm looking to relocate to MD from upstate NY and would like to be somewhat near my boyfriend in College Park. I can transfer to offices in Rockville, DC, Arlington VA, Annapolis, Columbia, or Baltimore. (OR I can look for a new job.)

I'm used to living in about 1500sf, but I can sell stuff and go a little smaller (maybe 1000sf). I can afford about $1400/mo and would be looking to either rent or buy. Ideally, I wouldn't spend more than $1000/mo, but I know I should be realistic.

I like "walkable" cities/towns. I'd ideally live in a community where I can walk to work, stores, and parks (or take public transportation). I don't like depending on my car to get around because I don't like sitting in traffic, but I'd be willing to compromise as long as I live near a park (for exercise)! I also love going to a beach or kayaking on a river. Basically - I need some sort of outdoors recreation. That is my biggest "must have." I don't have children, so I don't need good schools. I am in my late 20s and would also like a little bit of a night life (nothing crazy; I'm more into breweries rather than clubs).

Is there any location in MD that offers all of this (preferably near one of the cities where I can relocate my job)?! I know it's a long list, but I'd really like to have my cake and eat it too! ANY input will be appreciated!!

Also - If you know of any particular apartment complexes or rental areas (I love older architecture!), that would be extremely helpful!!

You have a lot of options... you could even find a place in college park. lol

Zillow.com will give you an idea of the rent in each area. Basically, stay in rockville, SilverSpring or maybe someplace near your job in DC.

You could even do VA... you have a lot of options for the money. Nice 1 bedroom... near (within half mile) of a metro.

Hyattsville. It's just down the road from College Park. Relatively walkable with two Metro stops in town (both Green line) and a nearby MARC stop. Home to a nice brewpub, Franklin's (and DC Brau isn't too far away in Northeast DC). Close to Bladensburg Waterfront Park to kayak on the Anacostia and easy access to multiple biking/jogging trails. Depending upon the exact locations, it should be an easy commute to DC or Silver Spring.
