That's a beautiful house, but the market for people who can afford a house that expensive and want a house that big in that part of the state has got to be very very small.

Knowing what county to check would be a help.

Rural means different things to different people. I have canoed most of Maine's rivers. Last spring I headed west from Ashland on the American Realty Road. I went about about 40 miles on logging roads and came to a very large mansion. It belongs to the owner and founder of Subway. I continued west to the Saint John River. Back in my canoeing days it was not possible to do that, but there are more rural properties. Most people who think a 5 acre lot is huge, also want to know how far it is to the nearest super WalMart. The two smallest WalMarts in America are in Lincoln, Maine and some place in Indiana. They were test investments. Most people going into a WalMart want to know about the fresh vegetables and the wine. Up here, most people want to know about ammunition and motor oil.

The problem with a house that size is heating it,$400.000 to buy it, another $400.000 to heat and maintain the damn thing.
Also got to understand that Maine is a retirement state, not a lot of retirees need or want a house that size, with all the constant maintenance requirements that old houses need. Even if your rich finding workers is not easy.

My SIL just sold her house in Lewiston for a good $70,000 to $100,000 above what it would have sold for just a year ago, in less than a week with multiple offers. Its Crazy right now.

Interest rates on the rise (still almost at historical lows) as well as inflation. Maybe the housing market will level off.

I've been watching zillow and realtor.com. It's provoked panic attacks! We had planned on looking in April - after my husband retires. Prices are rising so fast, I hope there is anything in our price range by then!

It's definitely unsettling! We are still a few years off from making our move, but I continuously monitor what's listed for sale so when we're ready I'll have a good idea of what to expect. Will cross my fingers that they will level off in a couple years

I bought in 2018, and want to stay in this house (Washington Co.) a couple more years. (want to downsize but not quite yet)

It was tempting this past year, as a realtor friend told us that out of state buyers were buying sight unseen.

I hope to HELL the market stays good. Even though my house - on Zillow - says it's only worth $6K more than i paid for it...

Zillow is only good for large areas with large numbers of fairly consistent homes and neighborhoods. Get out in the sticks, or use it for unique properties that are different from the regional run-of-the-mill properties, and it falls apart.... often badly. I find it to be useless in the rural West, for example.
