I am moving my family from Westport, CT to likely Manhasset. I have an elderly parent who resides in Nassau County and want to be closer to them. Also, I grew up on south shore until I was 22 so it'd be nice to bring my family to LI. How is Manhasset for a family to live? I don't know a whole lot about it but the proximity to the city is nice and I have heard the schools are top notch. I was looking at the areas behind the Americana or the Plandome area. Budget would be around 2 mill, at the most. From growing up on the south shore, I've always heard Garden City is very good. How do they compare? Thanks in advance!
Might be the best place to live on all of Long Island (assuming commute to Manhattan is important to you). Immaculate homes/landscapes behind the Americana. Little rolling hills and mostly quant brick homes. Amazing place.

I also prefer it to Garden City, which leads to my one downside about not just Manhasset but Nassau in general. Safety. Garden City is basically surrounded by the hood - and since the BLM riots the GC police have been passive in keeping the less desirable demographics out of the area. The same is starting to happen in Manhasset. The Americana is now routinely targeted for robbery, as are the local area residents (ex: being followed home in your car). If you're willing to profile black/hispanics, you should be ok. If not, you can expect...or at least don't be surprised if you get mugged in your own driveway!
How does this compare to Westport? I don't know. You'll have to figure that one out.

Manhasset (and especially Plandome) a step up from GC for sure IMO. Schools are great, lots of families especially Plandome. As for addressing the above post with crime its still extremely safe, although crime is on the rise pretty much everywhere nowadays, we are still talking about one of the highest income areas on LI here, not East New York lol no place is completely immune to crime. Syosett/Jericho are nice areas but not in the same league (although the schools are ranked better) also unless you are Asian (especially in Jericho) or Jewish you may feel like a bit of an outsider in those towns.

Manhasset has neighborhoods of nice older homes on relatively smallish lots and seems to hit the sweet spot for those who want the nice train commute and good schools combo. Like the other three districts mentioned, it has a critical mass of bright and motivated kids as well as supportive (and competitive) parents. Manhasset and Garden City once had a similarly preppy vibe although that is no longer the case. FWIW
I live there with my family and have no complaints. Everyone is friendly, takes immaculate care of their property and the schools are some of the best in the country. Garden City is great too but location-wise, Manhasset is surrounded by better areas IMO.
I've lived in both GC and Manhasset. Still have family in Manhasset. It's a great town, doesn't have some of the tight feel of GC, but like others have said it's more isolated from the ghetto than GC. All of the towns that Manhasset shares a border with are good, while GC shares a large border with the worst town in Nassau County and has more working class areas on other borders. GC also has a big target on its back from state politicians who would love to build a bunch of affordable housing there. Manhasset is on average more expensive than GC as well so others have recognized its charms.
More Asians in Manhasset. They're gobbling up the North Shore. Which isn't a bad thing for real estate values but can be a bit of a culture shock when your child is one of two non-Asians in their 1st grade class (looking at you, Syosset).
I don’t think you can go wrong at all. I worked in garden city for a time and while a very nice area, it is very sheltered, basically boxed in by neighborhoods that have a completely different contrast. I personally think Manhasset is much prettier as well, with rolling hills and winding roads.

yes, you essentially have Port Washington to the north, Great Neck to the west, Roslyn to the east and North Hills to the south. All of which are nice areas and very safe. That was one of the appealing aspects of Manhasset to me.
When looking at areas, Port Washington felt a little too secluded to me, kind of like Long Beach (only a few ways in and few ways out) and Great Neck felt too close to Queens. This left Roslyn and Manhasset and Manhasset checked off more boxes for us than Roslyn did, although you really can't go wrong with Roslyn either.
