Is it normal for a school tax increase of $1000+ in one year, 2011-2012?

In previous years school taxes on the house increased between $100 to $300 dollars.

No improvements to the house were made to effect its value and its assessed value has remained the same from previous years.

Thanks for the insight in advance...

Can not find anything specific as to current year school district taxes, but according to http://www.floralpark.k12.ny.us/budg...et_Hearing.pdf , the 2012-13 proposed budget of $27,668,799, an increase of $1,283,636 or 4.86% and the tax levy increase is projected at $1,366,184 or 6.58%.

This is why I continuously vote no. I'm not a teacher and I don't have kids and yes I own a home but Long Beach will always be desirable so I'm not worried about the home value going down.

Not worth voting yes to the budgets, IMO. I don't feel I should have to pay higher taxes when it doesn't benefit me.

I agree. However, this is the way the system is. People complain that all the special after school activities are being cut. They all want these special programs. However, these are the same people complaining there taxes are too high.

The 400K budget item for replacing the school boiler is a load of BS. I work for a state owned ESCO, that I will not name here, that has at a major part of its business to replace school boilers. We have done some hundreds of systems for the NYC public schools. The Coal School program replaces about 300 coal fired plants in NYC. Now we are working on 600 heavy oil school boiler replacements in NYC.

That being said, I mentioned this to one of the trustees. Apparently there was no action on his part.

We do the work and fund the payment through the use of energy saving technology. Usually works out to have a positive cash flow but not always. In any case there is a financial benefit captured by using newer tech to provide the same service as would otherwise be done for no benefit. Also the cost of money is extremely low when we finance.

If anyone knows who to ping to get some action let me know. It is truly a wast not to take advantage of a system like this. And if anyone wants to know, I get no benefit from this except a job well done.
