The other day I needed to fill up my car with gas. I went to the BP on motor parkway in Commack near the LIE. They have the balls to charge $1 more to charge. They position it as if you pay cash you get $1 discount. I get the fact that the gas station needs to pay more money when they accept charge but that is only about 2%. This is robbery. Something needs to be done. I know Newsday had an article about it recently too. Personally I never carry cash. It is a pain, and I do not like change. I use my AMEX for everything.
This practice of discounting cash by $1 is just robbery!
Have to laugh because I read this tactic online the other day and then experienced it the Mobil on Sunrise Hwy in Islip yesterday. Shell was $4.15 and Mobil was $3.95. I chose Mobil and then saw credit was $4.95. So out came my secret $100 bill and I paid cash instead of credit. I am sure very soon they will all be doing it. Hey....at least my monthly AmEx bill will be less. Don't worry folks.....Obama will save us.

Just look for a "Same price cash or credit" sign and it won't be a problem. This isn't Montana, we have gas stations every few blocks so there's plenty to choose from.
I only get gas at places like Hess or 7-11 as most of them don't charge extra for credit, I refuse to enable the scammy practice of charging more for credit since we're in 2012 and not 1992.
Yeah, it's really not that hard to just use cash - I am the opposite, I ONLY use cash for basically everything. Rarely charge anything, thats why you are all in debt.

We're not ALL in debt. I often use a debit card (I think most people have them). I hardly use cash for anything, it is just so much easier to use a card and makes it easy to keep track of spending.
or you could use gas reward points that you get from grocery shopping at stop and shop and save money at shell. Last time we filled up I got 60 cents off a gallon.

Same here, use my debit/check card all the time... rarely carry cash and rarely charge anything to an actual credit card. Like I said before, this is 2012 where anything and everything is computerized, there is no reason for gas stations to be charging more for non-cash purchases except as a cheap money-grab. Don't enable them.
