Entitlement: getting something you didn't earn in very basic terms. There SS/DI issues where the government has no mandate to provide that benefit which majority takes from other to give to a few.

No, I don't have any compulsion to be forced to help others. I volunteer, donate, and help people when I can, when I chose, and when I deem the cause to be a good one. The .gov should not tell me I need to, nor do they have a mandate to do so. The government should help to provide the ability to have its citizens support themselves, not provide the means. By adding taxes, minimum wages laws, etc then you negate those who are lowest on the pole from being able to provide for themselves.

As far as cash strapped, yea we had no food in the house on christmas and wrapped some old books in paper to make under the tree look fuller one year. But my parents made sure we had insurance even at the cost of being behind on the mortgage. Thankfully my parents solved their debt problems. Myself personally, not so much. Working since the youngest NY allowed (15?), held 2 jobs in high school, and worked 40hrs per week while going to college F/T. I didn't ask for a paycheck from the taxpayers, and I don't need one now.

That's your particular definition but when conservatives talk about entitlements they are typically including social security and Medicare, programs which are essentially self-funded. See also, Paul Ryan's abortion of a budget plan.

You have been fortunate in life and should thank your lucky stars that you've kept your head above water, but understand that others are not so fortunate and that for many, it has nothing to do with hard work and sacrifice. So-called entitlements are there to protect these people from catastrophe, the consequences of which I won't reiterate since you didn't address them.

To get back on topic -- it's a good thing our teachers are so well paid that they won't have to worry about these programs and are helping fund them!

Does money grow on trees ? (kind of as our uncle Ben is running a printing press) So if money went to teachers it went from someone else. So now they are on food stamps..

They're plucking the money tree. When it withers and dies, only then will they have to possibly contemplate such drastic measures and get in line behind the rest of us.

You have their strategy all wrong.

1. Drain community for as much as they can.
2. Blame someone else when it all blows up.

Leading candidates for consideration are conservatives, Wall St, China, aliens, capitalism, George Bush, state mandates, La Cosa Nostra, Snooki, and/or taxpayers.

Think of public sector unions as that drug addict in your family. It's always everyone else's fault that they hit the pipe. They can't stop shootin' up, but it's ok because they've dissolved all responsibility in their mind. I find it help a lot to think of public sector unions in this light, that way you know exactly what their reactions are going to be.
