What are your impressions of NKY?

Why? Is it a place you would live? Why or why not? Is it just a place to visit during the day? What is you LIKE or DON'T LIKE about it...particularly in reference if you were to live there??

Which towns/cities would you prefer...and WHY? Which areas of NKY would you NEVER live and WHY?

Since no one else has jumped in...disclaimer...my wife is from NKY, so we are up there regularly to visit the inlaws. So my impression is not based on ever living there, only visiting regularly for the past 10 years.

I like the older communities in NKY, namely Ft Mitchell, Park Hills, Ft Thomas, parts of Newport and Covington... I like the entertainment district that has developed in Newport in the past 10-15 years. Covington's Mainstrauss is a great little district with bars, restaurants and a lot of character. I love the views of downtown Cinci from many of the hills. The view from Devou Park is awesome...the river, the bridges, the buildings... The newer parts of NKY are not any different than other suburban areas in the country. Same design that has happened everywhere on the fringes of cities for the past 30+ years. Sterile, bland, cookie cutter...some areas are nicer than others though. We have friends that live in Burlington, that seems like a nice little community.

I like that there are nice NKY bedroom communities that are closer to downtown than many parts within Cinci's city limits. My in laws live literally 5 minutes from the I-471 bridge and they live in a quaint, quiet little town with a great school district.

The only places I absolutely wouldn't live are certain seedy parts of Covington or Newport but there are some awesome older neighborhoods in each of these towns as well. Overally, NKY is very safe. Of course, if school districts are a concern, then I would avoid Covington and Newport altogether unless you plan on private school. Ft Thomas has a great school system.
