My goodness. That storm certainly has far-reaching effects. I was just watching The Weather Channel showing the remnants of Ike's track through the Midwest and beyond. Stay safe, folks.

I've been listening to my scanner to crews getting trees out of roads and off people's houses and cars. After the wind died down we drove to the LBL to check on my wife's family cemetery, which does have one big tree down in the middle of it. When we left Cadiz, half the town was without electricity. There was no electricity all the way to Lake Barkley. Turning on to the Trace in the LBL we noticed the visitor's center was closed. Figured for the same reason. We then went to Aurora to find something for lunch and the whole town is electricity free! Don't know how far it went after that!

Wow, was bad in Western KY apparently. The wind wasn't very bad here today, a few strong gusts but nothing major.

I'm in Lexington and there's lots of small limbs and debris about. We lost a cover on a street light from a tree limb blowing into it. My daughter is at school in Northern KY and they have no power along with the gusts all day. No rain here, just tremendous winds.

I didn't know until I got off here after that last post, that several counties in western Kentucky (Ballard, Caldwell, Carlisle, Fulton, Hickman, Lyon, and Union) had declared a state of emergency. I called my former boss at the highway dept. in Union County. He called the entire crew in at 8:30 AM. This was almost 6 PM and they were still working. On my scanner here I can pick up 3 or 4 highway crews in the area and most are still out working.

Northern KY really got hit hard with wind. I think we had sustained tropical force winds for several hours, and the Greater Cincinnati Airport had a wind gust of 74 MPH. I think that's hurricane force. Many trees were uprooted, and the part of the roof was blown off at the Delta hanger at the airport. We lost electricity for about six hours (we just got it back an hour ago), and I think there are still some without power.

I would hate to see if we actually had a REAL storm problem here. 99% of the problem is downed trees and power outages. WK Rural Electric might actually have to get off their arses and do some real work for a change. I can fart anywhere in the WK Rural Electric area and the damn thing will go out. It's almost an insult to the people of Texas. THEY have real problems, not us.
